Week 2 - Journal
Ideation
Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)
Phone Holder
This week I'll design and fabricate a phone holder , first I searched on google about phone holders + laser cut and I get this design.
I got inspired from this design because I want to make simple things.
I also fond of pharaonic decorations , So I'd like to add this into my phone holder

Tool Chain
Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?
Laser Cutter
Laser Cutter
We use Morn MT3050D CO2 for laser cutting and It's software IDE Laser Cad
Fusion 360
Fusion 360 Software
We use Fusion 360 software to design the model of phone holder and export it as dxf files.
Laser Cad
Laser Cad Software
We use Laser Cad Software to set which parts is to be cut and another parts to be engraved finally to determine dimensions before download it into laser cut machine.
Material
3 mm Plywood
We use 3mm plywood as a material of phone holder.
Design/Preparation Process
Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?
Designing Section
2D - Design
I used Fusion 360 Software to design phone holder in 2D dimension and to make sure that it's dimension is right or not.
At first:
1- I sketched a rectangle with dimensions 120 mm * 90 mm less than real phone to be the front of the phone holder.
2- Secondly, I started to sketch another 2 rectangles 17 mm height to be the base of the phone to stand on it. So, I sketched 2 rectangles with dimension 20 mm * 3 mm.
3- I started to make circle 3mm in the middle of the front sketch to make T- Slot.
4- I started to make base of the phone holder by using rectangle tool.
5- Finally, I decided to add some pharaonic decorations. So, I searched for pharaonic decorations as svg extension and I inserted it to my design.
Secondly , I saved design files as dxf as I can deal with it in Laser Cad software.
Phone Holder 2D - Design
3D Design
I used extrude tool to extrude 2D designs of phone holder, Then begin to make the full design by using joint tool.

Finally , I wanted To Add my touch to the design. So, I decided to add some pharaonic decorations to it, and I want to engrave some parts and make pen cut on another parts. so, I had 3 options :
1- Cut With Speed 20 and Power 70 watt.
2- Pen Cut With Speed 100 and Power 50 Watt
3- Engrave With Speed of 300 and Power of 50 Watt

Development/Implementation Process
Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?
Final Design
Laser Cutting Process
After I handled the design in laser cad software , I downloaded it to the laser cut machine, First:
1- I put the plywood on laser cutter and checked it's dimensions .
2- I checked the origin to start cutting from it.
3- I also checked that there is a sheet of wood in the place that I'll cut in using Box button.
4- I pressed on Start Button and Let Machine Work :)
Overcoming Challenges
What kinds of challenges or problems did you face while doing the assignment, tutorials, or exercises? How did you solve them? Did you ask for help from an instructor or peer? Please provide a link to the tutorial or article that you used to solve your problem (if any)
Problems
The First Problem faced me is how to draw or insert pharaonic decorations into fusion 360 as a vector !?
- I solved this problem by watching a tutorial on Auto Desk Website, and I downloaded pharaonic decorations as jpg and by using jpg to svg online converter on Google i can insert it into fusion 360.
Final Project
How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?
3D - Model Fusion
Benefits
In this week, I had learned how to design 2D Design on Fusion 360 and how to convert it into 3D Design to simulate it.
I think this will help me in designing the structure or framework of my final project.
WOW!
What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?
Fabrication Challenge
The coolest thing which I'd learned this week is how to design more than one sketch and how to connect it with each others, that's what we made Hammock Chair.

Weekly Digest [OPTIONAL]
Tell us about any other cool things that you've made this week: in the Hands-on activity, tutorial examples, exercises, or any other cool mini-project that you tried out aside from the assignment.
Hands-on activity
This mobile holder -Air Conditioner Holder- which I made in hands on activity.
the most interesting thing in it that I had made it in about 10 minutes. I was surprised and I didn't think that I would make it because I consumed much time to search for material. Great Activity.
