Ideation
Week 2 - Journal
Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)
The video i got inspired by
the design before collecting it
the design after i collect it
I tried before beginning Maker diploma to print an complicated prototype with many joints and slots but i failed to let the parts fit with each other as the the scale was not right, so i though in this time to start from scratch and began with simple design, then i got inspired with this video, he draw with different technique, so i decided to do the same design but with the technique i learned in the videos of week 2
Tool Chain
Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?
software: fusion 360 to draw the design, laser work to print the design
machine in fab lab: Fab Lab Egypt's Morn MT3050D CO2 Laser Cutter to print the model
materials:plywood and cardboard
fusion 360
the cardboard prototype
the plywood
The software i used
The laser cut printer
Design/Preparation Process
Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?
I tried before starting the assignment to practice the exercises so that what i came up with
the car
the fidget spinner
Arabesque design
the wardrobe
Then I felt that i could start with the assignment, so i started by taking the measurement of my mobile by the ruler and through this website, then convert the dimension from cm to mm to fit in fusion360
Then started to draw sketches for each side
the core parts
The side parts
Taking the dimension of the t slot
Then extrude each part
Then assemble the parts with each other
The design after making the assemble
After rendering
then adjust the features to print the design on laser work software
The assumption of the time that i will consume and other features
Development/Implementation Process
Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?
As i tried before to print in fab lab with the laser cut machine in week 1, so this time was more easier than the first time, as i was know how to start
I started by putting the stl file on the fab lab computer so the laser machine will read the file and then start printing
then fixing the plywood in suitable place in the machine by using tape
after printing
the time i consumed
Then adjust the features of the laser machine by starting with tracking
Community of Learning
Did you ask for feedback? What are the ideas that others have contributed or suggested? What was someone else’s idea that you built upon? How did you help your peers? How did your peers help you?
6mm acrylic part
as i was the first one to print on Sunday so some parts were not available in the lab, so me and my peer sahar and amany (instructor) were trying to search for this transparent acrylic part to help us to make tracking in the laser machine, until we find an alternative this 6mm acrylic part, then we found this part by chance after we finished the printing
After i finished the printing, i Got a feedback from sahar and amany that it would be more good if i used the fillet features to the whole edges, so it would be better than the Sharpe one
Overcoming Challenges
When you got stuck, what/who did you turn to? At what point did you have to pause to research or learn more before moving on? What are some mistakes, pitfalls, or challenges that others can avoid if they were doing this assignment?
Title of Media
i faced some challenges through drawing the design on the software before printing it, the challenge that i faced was that i cannot make some lines fully defined, then meena elbadry replied me, and also mego, as i felt with mego s replying that it was a (سؤال بديهي)
Final Project
How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?
Assemble icon
by knowing the feature of assemble, it will help me to collect and know how the joints could be fit in my design before printing it, as my project will be printed with the 2d mode on laser cut machine
WOW!
What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?
i found this video, using silver and gold matrials instide of using plywood to cut a designs on laser cut
Weekly Digest [OPTIONAL]
Tell us about any other cool things that you've made this week: in the Hands-on activity, tutorial examples, exercises, or any other cool mini-project that you tried out aside from the assignment.
