The 3d frog


The task for week one was about to get more familiar with the 3d and 2d software on the computer and the machines in the fab lab Almadi.

For me this it was the first time to use a 3d software and print something in 3d, so i think to print something i am familiar with which is the toys, so i Searched for a toy on thingiverse till I found this magician frog.

Regarding the 2d printing on laser cut, I already worked on it before but on illustrator and was the first time for me to work on a laser work software, I tried before to cut mode only so i decided to try the scan mode, so i searched on 3 axis website for a model with cut and scan mode till i found The 2D frame of plants.

machine in fab lab: PRUSA 1 to print the model

materials: blue PLA filament

Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?

In both 2d and 3d, I started by downloading the software then watching the tutorials videos, it was easy to follow the instruction as it was into the point, i stared by import the both files that i searched before on the websites into the software, then started to adjust the cut and scan mode in laser cut software and adjust the( slice _support mode_time) in the cura software.

Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?


in 3d printer we started with putting an alcohol to clean the bed before starting


Then we put the sd card and started to adjust the mode of the 3d printer

then we checked the first layer if it is fine or not

in 2d printer we start with adjusting the wood in the machine by adding some tape as the wood panel was a little bit pined then we start to track the space we will start at, and searching for the file in the machine.

A printed star but it move

specially with 3 d printed parts, me and another one of my peer our printed one were not define so we started to help each other in removing the supported parts in good way with the tool box and suggest some ways to remove it

i gave a feedback for the one who did this printed part as it was cool and have an construction in it it was really nice choice.


Overcoming Challenges

When you got stuck, what/who did you turn to? At what point did you have to pause to research or learn more before moving on? What are some mistakes, pitfalls, or challenges that others can avoid if they were doing this assignment?

I faced one challenge with the 3d printing after finishing the printed one:

as i watched the 7 videos of the tutorials to use cura, I tried to find the suitable mode for the support mode that will fit my model but i couldn't find the best one, and i choose the support mode with is (everywhere), i couldn't imagine that the support is hard to handle in that way and hard to remove it, till i tried by myself, and finally i learned that this shape could be printed without choosing (everywhere support mode).

I faced 2 challenges with 2d mode printing with the software (before printing):

1_ I was confusing to know the the time it will consume to print in the software, i thought this were 11 minutes but it were 11 seconds till i asked on slack and i found it was to small to print.


The second was about the cdr file, this type of file doesnot open on the laser work software till youmna send this comment ( we can convert the cdr file to a dxf file through the link that she attached so it could open in the software) thank you youmna

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

The spelling board in laser cut mode


As I will use the laser cut mode in my final project so doing this assignment will totally help me in modifying the scale in a properer way.

What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?

as my 3d printed was not define, so amany suggested to print a 3d sun glass, but sherife suggested a coolest solution which is putting this sunglasses for the frog, and finally we can fix some mistakes after printed it in this way

My hero the clipper tool

The clipper tool was my hero that day as i fixed the 3d printed frog by this cool tool and discovered the whole tool box was really useful one

I tried to search more on the 3d printing mode till i found this multi colors printed, this is a cool thing i found this week while searching, and i found this video explain more the process of using multi colors in 3d printing.
