Classcraft

Level 1
Classcraft is a gamified classroom management system, which can turn your classroom into a choose-your-own adventure game. Want to know more? Dive in!
Gamification is the use of game-like elements in non-game situations. For example, you are engaged in gamified professional development. The competition, leaderboard, XP, and badges keep many of us coming back for more! Now, imagine that gamified experience in a classroom! Enter Classcraft.
With the increase in gamification in classrooms, Classcraft was born as a way to bring game-like elements into classroom management. Students create their own characters in the game, teachers assign these characters into groups, and award experience points (XP) based on behaviors in class. These points can them be used to redeem real-life rewards. There is also the option to remove XP, which can lead to real-life consequences. Check out this 2-minute video to learn more about Classcraft.
For a short example of what this would look like in a classroom, check out this short video.
Creating Your Roster: Classcraft has made it incredibly simple to get your classes ready to roll with minimal effort on the teacher’s part! It is fully integrated with Google Classroom, so with one click, you can import your classes into Classcraft using your Google Classroom roster! Not using Google Classroom? No problem! Simply copy and paste your class list into the designated space in Classcraft. Super-easy!
***VERY IMPORTANT: Communicate with others in your school to discover who is already using Classcraft! If a student is already using Classcraft in another classroom, you can import their character from that classroom rather than using Google Classroom import or copy and pasting from a student list. XP, HP, and GP do not follow them from class to class, but this will very much simplify the process for both students and teachers in the future!****
Creating Your Teams: You will want to be intentional in the creation of teams in Classcraft, just as you would be intentional with teaming in your physical space. Balance your teams with aspect of both behavior and academics as much as possible. Once teams are created, create the opportunity for student ownership by allowing them a few minutes in class to create their team name, background, crest, etc. These options can be edited by clicking the pencil. For now, just name them Team 1, Team 2, etc.
By personalizing your experience points (XP), game points (GP), and health points (HP), the game becomes alive for your students. These settings include Behaviors which can be positive or negative, Powers (given through earning XP), Sentences (consequences of loss in battle), and Random Events (which spice up the game even more)!
*Tip: To fully engage your students, have them help create the settings of their class! Anytime students feel ownership of the learning process, they will buy into it and give you all they’ve got!
