EDUCATION, CHILD DEVELOPMENT, AND FAMILY SERVICES PATHWAY
Child Development 1/2: Students learn how to create a healthy, nurturing environment for children and become aware of the developmental stages they go through from conception to age 5. Students study and apply the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of children as they work with preschoolers. Students plan and lead a variety of activities for young children. Responsibility, decision making and management are job skills learned in this class. This is an introductory course for the future parent, teacher, health care provider, or psychologist. Open to all students. 20 Credits (UC “G” Approved)
Child Development 3/4: This course continues to focus on the emotional/psychological, cognitive and physical development of the child. Current theoretical and research perspectives are emphasized. Included is a historical and socio-cultural overview of child development. A multi-disciplinary approach requires students to produce essays, oral presentations, and projects.
