Thank you so much for encouraging good habits last week during our MAP assessments! THANKS, ALSO, for joining us so your child could help lead the worship songs on Sunday. They sounded like angels from heaven! Don't you agree?
WE NEED YOUR HELP: We didn’t put a time limit on the reading homework because some students don’t have much stamina yet and others are naturally reading half an hour. Our goal is that your child builds his/her reading stamina to AT LEAST 20 minutes a night. At this time you know your child better than we do so please challenge him/her to build his/her reading stamina. We can help you if you have any questions. PLEASE ASK! We will also be using Accelerated Reader to monitor our comprehension. Click here for a bit more info
We will begin our spelling this week with only five words to slowly get used to using our spelling site.
FYI:
Your child may log into Biblionasium and do his/her A-Z vocabulary (one game/day) at home each morning OR save it and do it when they first get to school. It needs to be in the morning so it registers with the correct date of the school day.
Did you know that third grade collects old towels, blankets and newspapers for the animal shelter? Does your linen closet need purging? Drop your donations at the check-in office or at our classrooms and we will deliver them to the shelter when we are able. Read more about this service project here.

We made it!! Third Grade at Salem Lutheran has officially started. We had three great days and hope you all did also.
For those of you not able to attend Back to School Night, or if you just want a refresher, click here for the presentation. Let us know if you have any questions.
We are sure you noticed that Salem has adopted the English Standard Version of the Bible this year. Because our classes used the New International Reader's Version last year, we have a number of them to give away. We are going to offer them to your children to give to a friend who doesn't attend Salem and would like his/her own Bible. If your child needs more than one, please email your teacher.
We will continue practicing on the blog next week and add a few other things as we are ready. We are planning on taking the STAR assessment placement tests in reading and math throughout the week.
**Reminder: Please remind your child that he/she needs TWO books to read at all times. The books go home and then the same books come back to school every day until they are finished.
