Parent Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to a brand new school year at St. Elizabeth Catholic School.  This is my 14th year as the physical education teacher and 13th year as Athletic Director at St. Elizabeth, and I am looking forward to another amazing and exciting year. We will have new rules, guidelines, and procedures based on the current guidelines and restrictions that we must follow.

My goal as the PE teacher is to help the students develop a positive attitude toward physical activity and healthy habits.  Students are expected to participate to the best of their ability in a wide variety of activities, which will hopefully give them the confidence to pursue other competitive sports and activities later in life. All student will be introduced with different health topics when the gym is not in use and we are not allowed to have gym class outside due to the weather.

Your child will normally have PE three a week unless your class comes twice a week.  Once it is time to start dressing out, appropriate clothing and footwear is required when applicable.  If the student is not dressed appropriately to participate in PE activities, points will be deducted from their daily dress out grade when applicable.  The student is still required to participate in class if they forget their dress out clothes unless they are wearing non-appropriate gym attire shoes.  In this case, the student will sit out and write for the class period or will walk laps, whichever they prefer.  Each class period the students receive a participation and dress out grade when applicable.  Parents, please note that this is your child’s responsibility. If they do not have their gym clothes at school that day, they will lose points when they come to gym class.   They will not be able to call you during the day to have you bring their gym clothes. It is my goal to instill accountability in the students, as this will contribute to their future success.  If a student does not participate fully, points will be deducted as well.  If a student refuses to participate, they will receive a 70 for the day and will have to walk laps/do a writing assignment for the entire period. If your child does not participate in any of the above listed activities they will receive a 50 for the day.

Attached are the class rules and expectations which are also available on my Google Site page (https://sites.google.com/saintspride.com/saintsathletics/home ).   After you have reviewed this with your child, please sign and return.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time should you have any questions or concerns.  My email address is wcervenka@saintspride.com

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Coach C
