Coach C's Physical Education Classroom Expectations

Physical Education Class Expectations 2025-2026

Gym Expectations:

·         The students come to class each day with a willingness to learn, exercise, participate,  and have fun while playing a variety of games and learning numerous motor skills.

·         All students are expected to come in the gym in a quiet single line (once coach/sub is ready for the class to enter), quietly enter the locker rooms, dress out (if required), return to the gym to sit down on an X on a row and wait quietly for further instructions. If the locker room is  too loud and the coach has given a warning, laps after exercise might be given to whomever comes out after the second warning. Misconduct or inappropriate behavior in the locker room could result in not having the privilege to dress out for a week.

·         Students must not use or touch any equipment until they are given permission. A result of doing so might be a written reflection  time or laps around the gym. (NO RUNNING INTO THE GYM AND/OR LOCKER ROOMS to get dressed)

·         Most importantly, I want the students to show respect for themselves, the teachers, and their peers at all times.

Online/Remote Learning will be used if we have inclement weather. Coach C will post an assignment for the day on Google Classroom by 8 am and will be due by 3 pm. If you have gym on that day, then you will receive an assignment. If you do not have gym class then you will not have an assignment on your Google Classroom. Coach C will be available via email on these days at wcervenka@saintspride.com and if needed on google meet from 8am-3pm.

PE Uniform

I expect all students, each class period, to come to class prepared and dress out each class period unless otherwise stated in the handbook that your children does not have to dress out based on grade levels. The first day of class is the ONLY exception due to students not knowing their schedules and going over rules, procedures, expectations, etc. Below is a brief statement of the dress out expectations. For more detail, please see the handbook which has a full explanation on the PE uniform.

·         Grades PK-4th—the students will wear their school uniforms to gym.  The girls MUST have privacy shorts on under their jumpers. If they do not have them on they will be asked to walk laps for that gym class.

·         Grades 5th-8th —are required to wear the PE uniform every day that they attend gym beginning with the second day they have PE class. They are  allowed to wear the St. E PE uniform that can be purchased in the front office or may visit our online spirit store to purchase St. E shirts and may wear predominantly blue, red, or black shorts of appropriate length (see handbook for guidelines). In addition, any St. E tee shirt may be worn instead of the PE uniform sold by the front office. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS. They must be in complete dress out in order to receive full credit for dressing out.  Each class period the students will receive a participation and a dress out grade. The students will be allowed 3 minutes to get dressed and get to their spots and to end the class the students will be given 5 minutes to get dressed. The students will get dressed in the locker rooms and restrooms.

·         The socks should be white crew socks and should be seen by the teacher. “No show” socks are not allowed. The shoes should be non-scuff tennis/athletic shoes. Any St. E sweatshirt or sweatpants will be permitted when weather appropriate, as long as the student has a St. E shirt under the sweatshirt. For more detail, please refer to the handbook. If jackets are taken off during gym class, they will be put out in the hall on the shelf where the water bottles and backpacks are at.

Online/Remote Learning PE Uniform will not be required.

Gym Rules

 Each student:

·         Is expected to participate each day that they have gym, unless they have a doctor’s note. This includes full participation in the warm-up as well as the activity that is assigned for the day. If full participation is not met for that class period, the student will lose points in their participation grade for that day. (Full participation means to participate to the best of your ability while showing effort.) Points will be deducted from your daily grade if full participation is not followed during class.

·         Is expected to come into the gym and show respect to everyone, not only to the teacher but his/her peers as well as themselves. If not followed, consequences will be put into place depending on the behavior.

·         Most importantly, I want students to come to gym and have fun each day while exercising and keeping active, as much as possible, while they are in class.

***If a student misbehaves in gym, they will be given a verbal warning; if a student continues to act out they will be asked to walk laps or take a timeout and will lose points for that day only due to disruption of the class period. The student may resume participation once they choose to act accordingly. If a student repeatedly disrupts class, a parent will be notified via email or a phone call. If the disruption continues, a meeting with the parent and student will be scheduled.  The intermediate and middle school students will receive detentions, if necessary based on the situation. Lastly, they will be sent to the principal's office if the behavior does not improve.***

Grading Scale:

Participation/Dressing out:

·         All students are expected to participate in class to the best of their ability. Students who fully participate can earn a 100 for that class period unless they have had a behavioral issues during that class period. Every student starts off each quarter with a conduct grade of a "G" and based on how their behavior for the quarter, the grade may go up to an "E" or below a "G". If your child is in danger of a "N" or "U" parents will be notified that they child will be receiving that grade for their conduct.

·         If they choose not to participate in the activity, they will walk laps during the entire gym class without talking and receive a 70 for the day for their participation grade.

PK-4th Grade—they will receive only a participation grade in PE. If they misbehave they will lose daily points and it will affect their conduct grades at the end of the quarter.

5th-8th—they will receive the same two grades each class period as stated above. The dress out grade for these grades will be a 70(80 for 5th grade) if they are missing any part of their PE outfit. Conduct grades can be affected if the student continues to misbehave on their daily grade and end of the quarter conduct grade.

With all classes (K-8), I will be taking 10 points off daily participation grades if your child does not give 100% effort while exercising and participating in P.E. class. In addition, if your child is disruptive or misbehaving during class, they will also receive an additional 10 points off for the daily grade.

Emergency Situations:

Each student is expected to dress out every class period they have gym. If not dressed out, points will be deducted from the student’s dress out grade. In the event of a severe injury, please provide a doctor’s note to make the teacher aware of any exercises that the student is limited to perform. If acceptable, the student will walk laps for the PE class to ensure the physical activity for that class period. In the event the student is unable to perform exercises, a written assignment will be assigned to be completed and turned into the teacher at the end of class to be graded for the participation grade for the day. A parent note to the teacher might result in a loss of points for the day.

Additional Grades:

·         Grades 4th-8th will be required to take the fitness gram and record their information on the software installed at the school. Students in grades 5th-8th will be given a test grade (counts twice in the gradebook) for every fitnessgram test they take (they take 4 fitnessgram assessments one each quarter). There is 7 tests in all and each test will be 10 points each. All students will start with a 30 (given 30 points to start by the coach) and they will increase their grade for each test taken as long as they are following rules, listening to instructions, and giving their best effort at all times for a total of 100 points. A lack of effort or misbehaving during the tests will result in points lost on the final score of the fitnessgram test. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines, the fitnessgram will look different until further notice. 3rd Grade will practice throughout the year and in the 4th quarter they will take the fitnessgram tests and will receive a test grade.

·         Students in grades 5th-8th will also be given tests on fitness material, exercises, muscles, bones, sports rules, etc. These tests will count twice in the gradebook as all tests are counted at St. Elizabeth. The student has a week from the day of the test to do test corrections and submit them to the coach for grading. A student may receive half of their points back on one of the test grades. For example, if your child earns an 80 then that will go in twice to the gradebook. If they do corrections and they are correct, they will receive 10 points back on one of the test grades. In the gradebook it would state an 80 and a 90 for that particular test to average out to an 85.
