Artist Statement
“We are surrounded by the Colors and Sounds of the Natural World.
Be still! Look! Listen!
My journey with watercolors began over 20 years ago. My passion for the out-of-doors and the natural world that started as a young woman in Minnesota and lives on in Oregon stronger than ever. Beautiful landscapes and wildlife never fail to awe and inspire me. My watercolor paintings are a natural extension of those feelings and their powerful impact on me. I seek to capture these emotions in my paintings for others to experience and enjoy.
I chose watercolor as my medium specifically because of its transparency and luminescence, both of which help me interpret what I see and feel in Nature. The layering of color-on-color reminds me of the play of light on a tree or mountain or lake as they pass through the hours of the day – from amber dawn to indigo evening. Watercolor painting is my personal evolution of interpretation, growth and letting go!
“The purest gift is not of gold, but in art that awakens the soul.”
