"Softening" by Kristen Phillips
The Grove
features "A Practice of Attention" by SageBrushers member Kristen Phillips. The paintings in this show began on singletrack: thousands of small forms, no center, no hierarchy, attention moving the way it moves when the body takes over and the mind opens.
For fifteen years Phillips has been building this vocabulary: leaves, the lacelike structure that holds them, a field that never resolves into a single focal point. Three paintings, each its own state of attention: flow, interconnection, and softening.

Layor Gallery
presents SageBrushers member John Sherry. Based in Bend, Oregon, John is a pastel artist whose work brings everyday subjects into focus with bold color and rich texture. Drawing inspiration from still life, animals, urban interiors, and landscapes, he works primarily from his own photographs to compose scenes that feel familiar yet newly seen.
His rugged realism in pastel elevates ordinary objects and moments, inviting the viewer to slow down and notice subtle form and atmosphere. Through careful observation and vibrant mark making, Sherry creates work that resonates with both presence and personality.
