Welcome to tech classes at DHS. All grade K, 1, 2, and 3 have tech classes this year. In fact, we are the only school that has a class for you to specifically learn about the 6C's in technology, this year.
We will be focusing especially on your Online Safety, communicating, and creating digital content. My goal as your teacher: inspire you to be as much a creator as a consumer with technology.
Clever is the easiest way to login to your math, science, social studies, and other accounts.
This is where the activity is described for the week. Do each activity before class the next week.
Clever Challenge
Use your Clever login all week. Use it to log into any of the class accounts you have for class (if they are included in Clever).

School CBs (Chromebooks) come in about five different versions. However, when you are logged in, they are all pretty much the same. This video introduces the doc, putting an app on the doc, choosing Light or Dark modes, and UPDATING your chromebook.
Add the Gmail and Drive apps to your doc. Update your classroom computer so it says "Your chromebook is up to date".

Typing club is a way to practice your keyboarding and become a keyboarding ninja! The school pays for it. You can use it anytime you are logged into and syncing to Chrome.
Spend an extra ten minutes at home practicing your typing club. See if you can type lesson 14 without looking at the keys.

When you send an email, sometimes you'd like to make it look and feel a little more exciting. Learn how to navigate in the email to edit colors, text font, and more.
Practice adding different colors, fonts, and sizes in an email.
Remember, type the email first. Then check for grammar and spelling. Then, reformat it.

Google Drive is like a digital bank. You can save Documents, picctures, videos and much more. As an introduction, we will go over making a new folder, changing the color, and adding a document made with Google Docs.
Drive Challenge
Make a folder in your Google Drive. Name it TECH. Make it Blue.
Make a foler. Name it "old stuff" or "2022". Make it any color you wish. Drag all of your other files into this folder to organize your drive.
Part 1. Here is the link for the screencast.
Google Docs is an excellent tool to create written documents. In this introduction, you will copy a shared document. Once the copy is in your own Drive, you will rename it follow a list of instructions. Some skills will be copy, paste, highlight, fonts, colors, double-clicks, and the powerful paintbrush.

Challenges are meant for you to practice and learn the digital skills you will be asked to do in your other classes. It is important to practice these skills between tech classes so we can move on and explore even more skills. This week is all about sharing your work with someone.
Sharing Google Doc Challenge 1
You have now finished the challenge, almost. This week you need to share it with the correct account: STEXG3
Last week, a practice phishing (bad bad bad!) email was sent out to grade 4 students. Many students clicked on it. NO! Even one student clicking on a real phishing email can hurt our school. We will disucss it in class. The chosen video for this week is about the "bad" stuff that is hidden in emails as "Clicks" or "links". Remember, DON'T EVER CLICK a LINK in an EMAIL from SOMEONE YOU DON'T KNOW.
Talk About Malware with mom/dad
Tell mom and dad about the lesson this week.
Ask mom and dad about the company email tests.
Have a family discussion about online safety at home.
Here is the LINK to the Slideshow from Class.
Check your email for a link to the CODING slideshow from stexg3. The link is also HERE.
Now, how do you go from the slides to actually view the Slideshow (like a movie with clicks)? The class and video show examples of moving through a slideshow in viewer mode. Also, I have attached several coding activities to click on and try.
Coding Challenge
Click on this link. Try all of the coding activities from slide 2, 3, and 4. If you would like to see all of the Code.org games, click HERE

This week and over the holidays, you can continue to explore coding. I have added a new slide at the end full of NEW Microsoft Coding Activities. Microsoft has a team of coders that sit around and just make coding activities for Kids to learn coding.
Challenge
Sign into your email over the holidays, WHEREVER you are. Check your email to see if friends have reached out to you. I will send out a few holiday emails with cool links.

Padlet is an exciting way to share ideas. I have created one Padlet for the entire grade level.
You can add an idea not only in writing, but also with Pictures and links to other websites.
A Sharing Challenge
Post two ideas to your class on the PADLET.
NOTE: this is a collaborative and PUBLIC challenge. Everyone in Gr3 will see what you share. Be mindful of the 3B's , your spelling, and following the instructions.
