Step 1- Remove camera body from case and attach plate from camera mount (tripod, slider, shoulder rig, etc.).
NOTE: If using a tripod head, please make sure it is locked off to avoid the camera tilting forward or back too far. Unlock the sliding plate on the tripod to make sure the camera is balanced correctly. Once that is done, please remember to check the level on the tripod head to make sure the camera is levelled correctly.
Step 2- On the rear of the camera body there is a battery slot
Mount the battery provided in the case
Alternatively, you can use the AC power supply by plugging it into the DC IN port to the right of the battery slot.
Step 3- Attach the monitor and (optional) handle. The monitor has connectors on the mounting bracket. Line them up with the connectors on the top of the camera and screw it into place.
The same goes for the handle. The handle is there in case you need it, but if mounted on a tripod for a fixed shot, the handle isn’t necessary for the camera to function.
Step 4- Insert memory card into the slot on the side of the camera body.
Step 5- Power on Red Gemini by pressing the red button on the side of the camera labelled PWR REC. The RED logo should appear on the monitor upon startup and you will hear the fans power up.
Step 6- Take out the lens you wish to use.
Carefully remove the port cap on the front of the camera and the rear lens cap. There is a red dot on both the rear of the lens and the camera. Line these up and insert the lens into the camera. Once inserted, turn the lens clockwise until it locks into place. You will feel and hear a click once it is locked into place.
Remove front facing lens cap.
Step 7- You should have a live feed of the picture on the monitor. By turning the rings on the lens, you can adjust the aperture which controls how much light is let through the lens allowing you to lighten or darken the image. Also get the focus as clear as you can using the other ring.
Step 8- Now all that's left is adjusting the camera to your preferred settings eg: white balance, frame rate, audio settings and levels, checking the media card is formatted, etc.
White Balance is located at the top of the touchscreen as a 4 digit number followed by the letter K
Frame Rate is located at the top left hand side of the screen, represented in yellow as a number followed by the letters FPS (frames-per-second)
To format the media card, press Menu, followed by Media, then Device and Format Media… and Format. This will delete any files already on the card from previous shoots and free up some much needed space for your shots. After you’re finished each day (or if the card is full), please transfer the files to an external device and format it again using the Camera.
Step 9- Once you have the settings ready and your shot lined up, you're ready to record your first take. Use either the red button on the handle, the power button on the side of the camera body or the red button on the front to begin recording.
REMEMBER: At the end of the take, press any of the three red buttons again to stop recording and the shot will save to the memory card.
Step 10- Once you have finished your take, find Menu on the touchscreen monitor (top, right hand side) and then press Media and then Playback to watch the last take. Or press Menu and Clips so that you can view all takes on the card.. Once you’re ready, press Menu and then Record and you will go back to the live image for the next take.
