Welcome to Gray-New Gloucester High School!
We are so excited to have you as a member of our school community! GNGHS is a GREAT school with a variety of pathways/options for our students to learn and to become prepared for life after high school.
Our students are provided with rigorous and rewarding academic programs designed to meet the 21st-century framework goals that include being an effective communicator; a problem solver; a collaborator; a creative thinker; and a tech integrator.
Our school is one of only three high schools in Maine to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. We also offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses; Honors courses; and a new alternative education program called ExCEL (Expanding Choices for Each Learner) which is open to students in grades 10 - 12 through an application process.
We utilize a hybrid grading system in which students receive both traditional numeric scores and proficiency-based scores. We also evaluate students on their Habits of Work (H.O.W.) as we believe those habits are critical for success not only in high school but beyond.
Students who are part of the Class of 2020 and beyond are required to earn 44 “experiences” (22 credits) in identified areas in addition to meeting proficiency in the identified graduation standards for each content area.
We strongly encourage ALL students to make the most out of your high school experience. Consider the four years you spend at GNGHS as an opportunity to build a strong academic portfolio that will help market YOU after graduation. We are passionate about preparing our students for whatever pathway they choose. We encourage all students and parents to maintain a positive, open line of communication between home and school and to let us know if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions to make our school the best it can be. GO PATRIOTS!!!!
Yours in Education,
Ted Finn, Principal
