Introduction to the Workshop Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Semester Course Number: 8001

This course will introduce students to the tools, materials, techniques and processes necessary to create and manufacture a product. Students will work with a variety of wood materials. The focus of the course will be on the use of shop tools, safety procedures, shop etiquette, and the methodology of drawing plans and design. Students will produce work from concept to product to demonstrate their knowledge.

*2023-24 school year- This course counts towards the fine arts graduation credit.

Computer Aided Design Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Semester Course Number: 8004

This course will introduce students to computer aided design (CAD). The focus of this course will be on fundamental skill development of CAD programs offered in this course, as well as its application in the creation of a product. CAD is an excellent resource for students interested in pursuing further knowledge of drafting, technical illustration and design, engineering, and architecture. Students will use devices and CAD software to develop a variety of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional models.

Woodworking* Grades: 10, 11, 12

Semester Course Number: 8005

This course will build on skills acquired in the Intro to Workshop class. Students will apply previously learned techniques and processes to further refine their woodworking skills through the process of planning, design, execution, and finishing. Projects will focus on functional applications of woodworking in conjunction with visual aesthetics.

*Prerequisite: Intro to Workshop

Advanced Woodworking* Grades: 10, 11, 12

Semester Course Number: 7779

This is a course designed for students who show an interest, skill, and passion for woodworking. This course will build on skills and safety strategies acquired in the Intro to Workshop class and Woodworking class. Students will apply previously learned techniques and processes to further refine their woodworking skills through the proves of engineering, problem solving, execution and finishing. Projects will focus on the functional applications of woodworking that include advanced joinery techniques such as mitered corners with splines, hand cut mortise and tenon joints and sliding dovetails.

*Prerequisites: Intro to Workshop and Woodworking must be taken prior and teacher approval needed.

Watercraft Design & Construction Grades: 10, 11, 12

Semester Course Number: 2335

This is a year-long advanced level course that will require students to apply for enrollment. In order to recieve a teacher recommendation, students must complete the application by 2/5/24. Students will learn about the design and construction process of building a cedar strip canoe.

*Prerequisites: Intro to Workshop and Woodworking must be taken prior and teacher approval needed.

Introduction to Computer Science Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Semester Course Number: 7243

This course introduces students to the foundational concepts of computer science and challenges them to explore how computing and technology can impact the world. Topics include: Digital Information and the Internet, App Creation, Data Visualizations, Coding, and Algorithms.

Requirements: No prior knowledge required. iPad and mouse required.
