Introduction to the Workshop

This course will introduce students to the tools, materials, techniques and processes necessary to create and manufacture a product. Students will work with a variety of wood materials. The focus of the course will be on the use of shop tools, safety procedures, shop etiquette, and the methodology of drawing plans and design. Students will produce work from concept to product to demonstrate their knowledge.
Computer Aided Design
Half Year Course Number: 8004
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
This course will introduce students to computer aided design (CAD). The focus of this course will be on fundamental skill development of CAD programs offered in this course, as well as its application in the creation of a product. CAD is an excellent resource for students interested in pursuing further knowledge of drafting, technical illustration and design, engineering, and architecture. Students will use devices and CAD software to develop a variety of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional models.
Introduction to Computer Science

This course introduces students to the foundational concepts of computer science and challenges them to explore how computing and technology can impact the world. Topics include: Digital Information and the Internet, App Creation, Data Visualizations, Coding, and Algorithms.
Requirements: No prior knowledge required. iPad and mouse required.
Woodworking*
Half Year Course Number: 8005
Grades: 10, 11, 12
This course will build on skills acquired in the Intro to Workshop class. Students will apply previously learned techniques and processes to further refine their woodworking skills through the process of planning, design, execution, and finishing. Projects will focus on functional applications of woodworking in conjunction with visual aesthetics.
Prerequisite: Intro to Workshop
Artistic Design
Half Year Course Number: 8008
Grades: 10, 11, 12
This course is an introduction to the techniques and processes used with various materials such as stained glass, ceramic tile, stone, wood, metals, etc. Students can expect to utilize mathematical principles of geometry and to develop proficient skills in the use of multiple tools. Students will further develop their creative thinking skills and self-expression through
3-dimensional art as there will be opportunities for student choice and personalization. There will also be opportunities for students to work in groups on their designs and projects, allowing students to communicate and collaborate with each other. Live hands-on projects will be required.
Advanced Workshop*
Half Year Course Number: 8007
Grades: 10, 11, 12
This course is a continued extension of the Introduction to the Workshop. Students will continue to develop their skill level with the tools, materials, techniques and processes necessary to create and manufacture more complex products. Students will work with a variety of wood materials. The focus of the course will be on the use of shop tools, safety procedures, shop etiquette, and the methodology of drawing plans and design. Students will produce work from concept to product to demonstrate their knowledge.
