The Civil Rights and Anti-Vietnam War Movements

My research question is “In what ways did the Anti- Vietnam war Movement and Civil Rights Movement affect each other?” I wanted to get a better understanding of both the movements while also looking deeper into how they played a part in each other and how they interacted.

There’s a lot of research and information on both of the movements separately but not a lot on them together and how they interacted. With them being in the same time period, it makes sense that they would be somehow intertwined, yet there’s not a lot of research that I could find on these connections and that’s why I wanted to look into it.

It’s relevant to look at this because both of these movements are historically significant within their own right and had a big effect on the progression of American history. Both movements had mass followings, made news around the country and in many ways altered or secured the views of Americans on political proceedings. These movements would have a lasting impact on America and are extremely intriguing to study. By looking at how they interacted with each other I can get a better viewpoint on the time period as a whole as well as a deeper understanding of how mass movements like this are perpetuated and articulated.
