Blog Post #4
After making the shift in my project I have been focusing on finishing up my research and analyzing my data
Since my last blog I have done multiple different things
1.Finding and Reading the Speeches
Because I changed my project so late I had a lot of make up work to do before my presentation. The first thing I started with is doing my data collection. I picked out five different people from my initial list of influential people by looking up speeches they have made, If I picked a leader and they did not have two speeches, one on the civil rights movement and one on Vietnam then it wasn't possible to use them for my project. I tried to select popular people form the movements that most of the general public would know about a well. Then, once I found my five leaders I picked two of their speeches, one about each issue and I got to annotating. I didn't have a very strict annotation key but most of all I made sure that I was marking down the main themes of each speech.
2.Analyzing the Data
Next, I began analyzing the data. I Focused on the main themes of each speech and then compared them to all the other speeches in order to find the connecting themes between both of the movements. After comparing all of the speeches I found three main connecting factors between the movements and then a few more underlying themes.
3.Compile Data
After looking at all of the speeches I compiles my data into the 3 main connections and the 3 other conclusions. Mostly I just wanted to organize and justify my data
This is what my presentation will look like!
4.Making my Presentation
Lastly, I put together my presentation. This took a bulk of time because I took all the work I have done throughout the school year and then compiled it into my presentation. I looked at the rubric and focused on the stuff that I absolutely needed to include and then added more things based on time. I added stuff to my presentation until I felt it was within the right time frame to present. From them on until my presentation date of April 12, I practiced presenting. I had my friends over to grade me first, get some feedback and then I changed my presentation a bit. Next, I had some neighbors over and presented for them, from them I got even more feedback and shifted a few things before going in the next day to do my presentation.
Moving Forward
When I did my presentation I got a lot of valuable feedback from the adults who watched it. I will take this advice in order to help me write my essay. From now on I will be writing my essay. I will first start by rewriting the beginning part of my essay that I wrote in the beginning of the year, I will have to change some things and rewrite them. Then I will work on finishing up the rest that I have not written yet.
