Proposed changes would add critical classroom space as well as large spaces for co-curricular activities, recognizing Rutherford’s growing enrollment and the goal of keeping students with special needs in their home school district.

  • Build a full-sized gym with a stage addition. The current gym is about half the size of what the state considers the standard for an upper-elementary school. The new gym would also be available for community use.

  • Replace the old gym with a two-story, 11-classroom wing.

  • Alter the multipurpose room to create a new cafeteria with air conditioning, increased capacity and ADA compliance to meet every student’s needs.

  • Add a fence and gates to the East Asphalt Play Area to block vehicle access and increase safety for students and staff.

This is just one of the Pierrepont classrooms that are at capacity due to rising enrollment.

Students sit shoulder-to-shoulder for lunch in the Multi-Purpose Room of Pierrepont.
