On the last week of Term 3, we braved a cold and gloomy morning to enjoy a warm, cheerful swim at the Whanganui Splash Centre. The students had an incredible time — laughter and splashes filled the pool — and every now and then we reminded them to settle down just a little! It was the perfect way to spend a chilly winter’s day, staying warm, active, and having fun with friends.
Alijah and Jeremiah, as part of our school band “Lights Go Out,” travelled to Auckland in September 2025 to take part in this amazing event. Here are just a few pictures from their fantastic trip, which ended with a visit to the Auckland Street Food Markets.
Like every other year, we received the visit from many kids years 6 from all over Whanganui. Our students, Ella, Cyrus and Enosa did a fantastic job leading the art work!
We learned a lot. Now, if we have to summarise it: avoid sugar, it will destroy your teeth. Also, read the label of any soft dink, you will be surprised how much sugar is there!
Always something going on.
We had a fantastic opportunity to put into practice much of what we had learned in the forest. During Term 2, we were invited to hike through a private reserve — a kiwi sanctuary. There, we learned about native New Zealand trees, explored how changes in altitude affect the types of vegetation that grow, and deepened our understanding of the local ecosystem.
It was a beautiful, warm day, and by the time we returned to base camp in the late afternoon, it was hard to resist the chance to cool off with a quick swim in the creek!
We had the fantastic opportunity to visit the gallery and learn from the art teachers!
