Paper Sculpture

The Box Filler: An Artist's Reflection

This piece is a paper sculpture of a man sitting on a large box filling a smaller box will origami boats. The inspiring prompt was to create a sculpture representing an adjective which featured prominently in the artist's first semester. The adjective I chose was "Applicable". My sculpture attempts to represent a human figure filling a box with origami boats he made. The boats represent thoughts and emotions and passions and secrets and wishes and regrets and hopes and dreams, the sort that colleges ask applicants to include in their answers. The purpose is always to fill a box. The human figure sitting on his own box is The Box Filler.

I sculpted this project out of a large piece of paper. The materials allowed were the piece of paper, tape or glue, a ruler of measuring, and scissors for cutting. I also went to the internet for origami person inspiration. The end result for the human figure is part origami and part assembled paper fragments.
