Look Inside

SV Dribble: An Artist's Reflection

This sculpture is mostly about boats. In the pictures the project is not finished. When the project is finished it will include fake water that fills the boat. The boat is leaking because of a hole. Water is spilling from the boat into the surrounding landscape. There are two people in the boat and they do not want to lose their water. The two sailors are patching the boat with bits of wood as their Sculpey possessions bob around them in the water.

I do not know if there is some sort of message here. Perhaps the message is that we must work hard to keep what we hold dear, even if it's not what the world expects. Maybe I am reaching.

The boat is made of clay, a material I have not used for years. I had a lot of fun using the clay. I love its natural color so I am going back and forth on whether or not I want to paint it. The biggest challenge is yet to come I think. It is my expectation that adding the fake water, probably made of saran wrap or something, will be the most difficult part to implement well.
