On Wednesday, June 14th, Mrs. Mathewson's English Connections classes participated in a Freedom Writers event. Their classes read the book, Freedom Writers Diary: How a Teacher and 150 Teens Used Writing to Change Themselves and the World Around Them. They had meaningful & profound classroom discussions, answered a plethora of complex comprehension questions, and wrote an argument essay about one of their chosen themes from the book. The culmination of this unit was participating in this event, where they screened their documentary and met one of the original Freedom Writers!
