HOT TAKES
Level 1 - Self Explanatory, Low Heat
Drake’s Search and Rescue is his worst song in a long time. Despite a catchy hook, the song doesn’t capture that original energy and expectations than when just a sample was leaked online. The song is produced horribly, only has one verse from Drake, riddled with the same chorus for the rest of the time, and simply doesn’t have any flow, energy, or beat switches which give it any type of flair. Sure, the song may be catchy, but it is obvious that it lacks any inspiration and feels weirdly incomplete for a Drake single.
Mr Morale & The Big Steppers by Kendrick Lamar is his worst release since early Kendrick. Though the album offers some songs with replay value, the album as a whole feels too radio friendly and too much like pop music to stick out in his catalog. For the wait of more than 3 years, the album doesn’t live up to DAMN or any earlier releases. The album’s songs feel like they lack a sort of ‘Kendrick’ like tone, typically full of energy and different. Specifically songs like N95 and Rich Spirit can be shown as this as they pull off the repetitive chorus and same flow of verse right after, resembling the common theme of other rappers in the industry. Not only does the album just not offer songs that make you jump out of your seat, Kendrick seems to be timid in the album, going for the emotional side coming at the expense of any richness in the music.
Level 2 - Mild (Jalapeno)
Baby Keem is beyond overrated. Songs like 16 are an example of a song that if a person like Drake would do it, everybody would call it generic, “same old, same old,” and trying to sound too much like other artists. Though, due to Baby Keem’s status of being in the shadow of his cousin, Kendrick Lamar, this seems to be excused for whatever reason. In general, the ‘appeal’ of Baby Keem according to fans is that he is “energetic, vibrant,” but when you fill in those same terms, you find so many other artists that fit that same exact criteria. Keem’s voice and flows resemble Kendrick Lamar’s too much to a point that it feels like he is a ‘pretender’ as none of what he does is anywhere close to Kendrick’s level of precision.
Ice Spice is a ‘better than average rapper.’ Home to lots of criticism for her revealing outfits, ‘Tiktok’ entrance into the rap game, plus her bikini bottom looking appearance, Ice Spice is surprisingly pretty good. Not only do her live performances showcase her actual singing and rapping talents, lyrically, vocally, and beat wise, her songs are catchy and differentiate her from other rappers.
Kid Cudi should retire. If it’s not the storming off stage during Rolling Loud or to the horrendous album Entergalactic, it is clear that Kid Cudi is no longer a star or even remotely relevant. In general, his music has become a generic pop showcase, which is a shame since his old music resembles abstract and fluid art. Nowadays, Kid Cudi is simply a tabloid hunter and has replaced making inspired music for being a clout chaser. Furthermore, Kid Cudi, it is time to retire!
Level 3 - Spicy (Habanero)
NBA Youngboy is the most consistent rapper of this generation of music. Despite putting out over 100 songs last year alone, Yb shows his talents throughout all of his music, if it comes to his versatility, vocals, and overall energy. This is something that is unmatched compared to other artists; to release so much and have the quality that the music holds is incredible and what makes him one of the most streamed artists of last year.
Kendrick Lamar’s lyrical ability is very overrated. When it comes to his features or to his solo stuff, Kendrick Lamar is often deemed as one of the best lyricists in today’s game, but truly that is just the result of the culture of obsessed fans. Often, Lamar’s music does demonstrate important and strong messages in the music, such as for systemic racism, but just because there is some symbol, doesn’t mean that these lyrics are good, per say. An example of this lame song writing is in Range Brothers by Baby Keem and him. As soon as Kendrick goes onto the song for his feature, instead of rapping something poetic, he instead does a common country greeting “Top of the morning'' seven times in a row. Not only is this lazy songwriting, it could be captured as obnoxious. So, to the Kendrick fans that act like this man is a second coming of god, just remember that this is the same person that said this corny bar.
Level 4 - Hottest (Carolina Reaper)
DUMMY BOY by Tekashi 6ix9ine is a 9/10 album. From gang rap hits like ‘DUMMY’ &‘TATI’ to catchy & electric songs like ‘KIKA’ & ‘FEEFA,’ DUMMY BOY is an album with great features, flows, and overall feel. The album does have its lowlights, mostly in part to Tekashi’s annoying rants and unpleasant tone, but overall is an album full of hits. Best features include Kanye West on ‘MAMA,’ Gunna on ‘FEEFA,’ and Tori Lanez on ‘KIKA’ which all showcase some of the best performances from the respective artists.
Lil Baby is the future goat of rap. Lil Baby has already displayed his hit-making ability in his young career, especially with the album ‘My Turn’ from 2020 which throughout was incredible. Also, the signs lead in this direction as Lil Baby has already had features with some of the artists in the industry. 10 years from now, Lil Baby will be viewed as a legend.
Hot Takes -Logan
Logans Hot takes
Young Thug is the most overrated artist ever. I have not heard a single song with him as a feature or just his own song that is good.
Kanye West Yeezus had the best production on an album ever. It is also my favorite album of all time.
Kanye West and Kid Cudi Kids See Ghost is a very overrated album, there are lots of good songs on it but it is no where near what people actually rate it the best song on the album is the first song Feel The Love The best part of this song is the production and the feature from Pusha T. Kanye's energy on the song is great also. In my opinion this is a 6.8/10 album.
Kanye West Donda is extremely underrated if it didn't have all the part 2s to the songs. I think it would be a 8.5/10 album and I think it should be considered a modern classic with songs such as 24 Come to life sounding so cinematic. Life of the party featuring Andre 3000 which is properly the saddest Kanye song song in his entire discography and Andre 3000 with the best feature on a Kanye song.
Kanye west Jesus is King is also so underrated all the songs are so cinematic especially on vinyl feels so magical listening. Songs like Closed On Sunday and Water have corny lyrics but are still so good.
Wolf is Tyler's best album. There are a couple parts of the album such as Pigs is a boring song. Parking Lot is very repetitive and very corny and the annoying bridge of Loiter squad lurking in the parking lot is very annoying.
Goblin By Tyler is also very underrated the lyrics are very disturbing but thats just because he is trying to be an edgy teenager with his Lyrics
Kendrick is overrated and all of his stuff sounds very similar. Lyrics are not that great as people say.
Self titled is Playboi Cartis best album.
