Bantu: A group of more than 60 million people in Africa who speak one of the Bantu languages, who mostly live south of the equator.
Sub-Saharan: Describing the part of Africa below the Saharan desert.
Mesopotamia: Fertile Crescent
So, who cares? We do! The Fertile Crescent is the place where the first civilization rose, and we can trace a lot of things in our current civilization back to them. Also, if you haven't noticed, the United States is pretty involved in the Middle East, with our recent war in Iraq and the ongoing one in Afghanistan. Knowing the history of the people we are dealing with will help us better understand them.
