The most important thing to keep you organized on Google Drive is the folder. It will let you organize your files like you never have before! Check out the video or read the direction below!
Open Google Drive
Click the new button at the top left
Choose Folder
Enter a folder name
Click Create
Your folder is created. Note that the folder will be created inside whichever folder you are currently looking at. The folder you are currently looking at is in bold above the area where your folders and files are.
Once you have created folders, you might want to start moving files into them. To move a file or folder, do the following:
Go to the file(s) that you want to move
Single click the file or folder to select it
Click the 3 dot / kebab menu at the upper right
Choose Move to
Click the folder or location and choose Move
You can also click and drag files into folders as well.
Click and hold on a file and drag it into the folder you want to move it to.
Keep in mind that the directory or tree browser can be used by clicking the arrow next to My Drive in the left column. It will then allow you to see folders inside of folders.
Starring files or folders in Google Drive is another great method to stay organized. It lets you have a place to quickly access the files you use most or are important.
Click a file or folder once to select it
Click the 3 dot / Kebab menu to the top right
Click add star
These starred items can be found in the left column of the page under "Starred."
To remove a file from starred:
Click a file or folder once to select it
Click the 3 dot / Kebab menu to the top right
Click remove star
The Recent category can be found in the left most column of Google Drive. This is an automated list that shows files in order of the last time modified. This means that you do not add or remove items from this list. It is simply created by Google Drive for convenience. Check it out if you know you were working on something recently, but cannot remember the name.
