Music Course Flow Chart

The chart below helps you navigate your course selections over the next four years. There are three basic types of course available:

• Gr9-12 Music This course happens during the day and focusses on learning your instrument in addition to learning theory up to the Royal Conservatory Preliminary Rudiments. Students will also learn some basic music history relating to the pieces we study in class. Music covered will include standard concert band repertoire, movie themes and pop music in addition to technique that will help you become a better musician. Please note that a student participating in this class may also take Gr9-12 band at the same time.

    • AMU 1O0 - Gr 9 Music

    • AMU 2O0 - Gr 10 Music

    • AMU 3M0 - Gr 11 Music (Prerequisite: Gr 9 or 10 Music and/or Band)

    • AMU 4M0 - Gr 12 Music (Prerequisite: Gr 11 Music and/or Band)

• Gr9-12 Band This course occurs outside the regular school day and runs from September until June. This course takes place after school from 2:30 until 3:40 Monday to Thursday, however students only need attend any two of those rehearsals per week. This is to allow flexibility for students to pursue this course but also participate in other extra curricular activities such as sports or clubs. This course will see students participating in concerts and festivals throughout the year and offers the possibility of participating in the annual Band trip to an exciting location.

    • AMI 1OB - Gr 9 Music

    • AMI 2OB - Gr 10 Music

    • AMI 3MB - Gr 11 Music (Prerequisite: Gr 9 or 10 Music and/or Band)

    • AMI 4MB - Gr 12 Music (Prerequisite: Gr 11 Music and/or Band)

• Gr11 Guitar This course happens during the day and is open to all Grade 11 students who wish to pursue classical guitar. In addition to learning the guitar, students will have an opportunity to participate in the extra curricular Guitar Ensemble and play for concerts and festivals throughout the year. A Grade 9 Music and/or Band course is highly recommended for students wishing to enrol in this class.
