The Lockerby Concert Band features students from Grades Nine through Twelve. The group has performed at both the Kiwanis Music Festival and the Northern Ontario Music Festival receiving a mixture of Diamond, Gold and Silver awards.
In 2023, our Junior group participated in the Sudbury Music Festival and received a grade of 89 receiving a Gold and a 1st place in their category. Our Senior group performed in both the Sudbury Music Festival and the Northern Ontario Music Festival. They received a grade of 90 which meant they earned a Diamond rating and were also 1st in their category. At NOMF they received the top rating of Gold. The Seniors also received an invitation to the provincial level of the Ontario Music Festival Association and the national level of Musicfest Canada.
During the past few years the group has been invited to both Musicfest Canada and the provincial level of the Kiwanis Music Festival. The group has also received the Allan Biggs Memorial award, the Muriel E. Holford Memorial award and the Rainbow District School Board award from the Kiwanis Music Festival. In addition, the Band was the opening act for this year's Kiwanis Showcase Concert. The group regularly performs for our Christmas concert and our spring concert.
Concert Band
New this year, Concert Band is an open group with students from Gr 9-12 with a variety of experience. Students in this level will be performing at the B200 level. Did you used to play an instrument and you're interested in picking it up again? This is a great place to start! Older students will help mentor younger students in a collaborative, friendly setting. Last year we were able to enter both the Sudbury Music Festival and the Northern Ontario Music Festival. We received a gold, silver and an invitation to nationals!
Wind Ensemble
Wind Ensemble is an invitation only group. This group focusses on music at the B300 level and requires prior approval from Mr. Jensen through either an invitation or an audition. While most of the students are in Grades 11-12, students from Grades 9 or 10 with a high degree of proficiency may be asked to play with or audition for the group. This group will be performing at both the Sudbury Music Festival and the Northern Ontario Music Festival.
If you'd like more information please feel free to contact Mr. Jensen:
