Rusk Classroom PED Policy as of August 2, 2022
Spanish 1 classroom rule: NO personal electronic device (PED) will be accessed by a student from the beginning of class to the end of class unless Sr Rusk has deemed it necessary for instruction or that instruction is over.
Reasoning: We all recognize the importance of in-person instruction and interaction in the classroom. Learning a new language is very dependent on hearing and listening to the new vocabulary, how it sounds and is put together to create phrases.
The introduction of the cell phone, or personal electronic devices (PEDs), has become a major distraction in our learning environment. Though there is a general understanding that students should not be accessing their PEDs during instruction and practice, some students choose to do so. The amount of time devoted to correcting this behavior is taking away from the instruction of students who refrain from the distraction.
Consequences of accessing your PED when not permitted:
You will receive a verbal warning to put your PED away. I will note this in my log and continue with instruction. If you continue to access your PED, it will be noted again, and your parent will be notified of the improper behavior. If later you request a repeat of the instruction, you will be directed to alternate avenues of instruction as my method wasn't appealing/effective the first time.
If a student accesses their PED during an Assessment, the Assessment will be considered void and a zero (0%) entered in the gradebook.
Redo for the assessment in question will be on the same material and may be in the same or different format.
The student will be held accountable to the established grading and homework policies and timelines.
If you make a habit of the above, your Assistant Principal will be notified.
