All 6-12th Grade students have been given WiFi Enabled laptops or Chromebooks.
For those without internet access at home: Comcast Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots and then launch a browser.
Internet Essentials Free to New Customers: As announced yesterday, it’s even easier for low-income families who live in a Comcast service area to sign-up for Internet Essentials, the nation’s largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program. New customers will receive 60 days of complimentary Internet Essentials service, which is normally available to all qualified low-income households for $9.95/month. (link)
The district has provided multiple feedback mechanisms to our staff, students, and parents in order to address any technology related learning issues that arise. These include, but are not limited to the following:
Students and parents have been provided with access to technology staff directly via email and phone.
Students and parents reach out to their teachers and school administrators in order to facilitate troubleshooting and remediation of device or electronic platform issues.
Teachers and guidance counselors monitor class participation on a daily basis during distance learning sessions. If the students aren’t participating in their class sessions and/or not turning in class word, or our platforms show that technology provided is not being used, teachers and guidance counselors reach out to the families via phone to determine the reasons for non-participation. Based on this, spare/supplemental chromebooks have been issued to students to accommodate their device needs.
At this time, we have not encountered issues with regard to inadequate network access, but a plan is in place similar to device access outlined above.
