As part of our Pandemic Preparedness Plan, we are working to ensure that all families that are eligible for free and reduced meals will continue to be afforded a daily breakfast and lunch.
Starting on Monday, March 16, 2020, and continuing daily Monday through Friday until schools re-open, all families that receive free and reduced meals may come to pick up breakfast and lunches that will be packed for you as follows:
Location: Outside High School Cafeteria (Lincoln Ave.)
Time: 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
All families with 6th - 12th grade students, will present their child’s ID to redeem their breakfast and lunch.
All families with Pre-K through 5th students will be provided a voucher, on Friday, March 13, 2020, that will allow them to redeem their breakfast and lunches. If your child is absent on Friday March 13, we will provide you with a voucher when you arrive to redeem your breakfast and lunches. We are committed to providing a high quality education to all our students and want to ensure we provide good nutritional meals to our families.
The district is now participating in the Summer Seamless Option (SSO) which allows the district to provide food to all students regardless of socioeconomic status.
Preparing Meals
The district will continue to use its FSMC, Pomptonian, to prepare food for students. With access, to the District’s kitchens, Pompotonian will continue to prepare meals. Menus have been modified to be Grab-and-Go. Althoughh daily meals are prepared, identified families have been prepared 2 days worth of meals. During preparation, food service staff is wearing masks and gloves.
Meal Distribution
A “Kiosk” type service has been set up outside the high school so students may pick up a grab-and-go meal. At the kiosk, there are 6 feet markers to ensure that social distancing is abided by. Food Service staff is wearing PPE when distributing food. Students/ families are also required to wear masks when picking up the meals. Deliveries to identified quarantined families have also been scheduled.
Kitchen Safety/ Food Safety
Pomptonian’s staff has just completed a review course on the proper food handling techniques and avoiding the spread of illness. The training is in line with the ServSafe standards. The district has at least one certified ServSafe Food Manager.
Kitchen cleanliness and sanitizing continues to take place daily.
Cafeteria Cleaning
Custodians and food service staff have been trained and a review of the importance of sanitation and its role in preventing the spread of viruses has been prioritized.
Tracking of Meals
As part of the SSO, all student meals regardless of socioeconomic status are being reimbursed by the NJ Dept of Agriculture. The district has printed rosters of all the students.
