The Flipped Classroom
Traditional Classroom vs. Flipped Classroom
Traditional Classroom:
In class: Lectures and note taking.
At home: Practice problems and homework assignments.
Flipped Classroom:
Outside of Class time: Lectures and note taking.
Class time: Practice problems, hands-on lab practices, and in-depth discussions.
Why Flipped Classroom?
Lecture materials, in the form of video clips, are created by the Biology staff.
These videos mirror classroom lectures with the exception that they can be paused, rewound, or rewatched.
Increases exposure to content.
Lessens the burden traditionally placed on students & parents at home.
Creates more time in class for hands-on laboratory exercises, meaningful discussion, and the reinforcements that students need.
Both parents & students can access the lectures, giving families a tool to help students prepare.
The Process:
Students can access the flipped videos on
Schoology
Student is assigned an edpuzzle video to watch and take notes for homework
Outside of class: student will watch, answer the practice questions throughout the video, and take notes in their notebook.
During Next class:
Teacher will debrief the notes, answer questions, address misconceptions, and check the students notes.
With the support of the teacher, the student will complete a hands-on activity, lab, or other application of the material as in the video.
Expectations:
Edpuzzle video(s) and notes are expected to be completed on-time & outside of class time
Notes are checked the class after EdPuzzles are assigned.
A student will be required to complete the edpuzzle video(s) and notes prior to continuing on to the in-class activity
