Mrs. Menchaca

About Mrs. Menchaca

I am looking forward to starting my 6th year here at RRHS. I am excited to start the year and ready to take on the challenges we might face together. By helping each other we can make everyone's load easier. This is going to an be exciting year as we investigate and communicate how biological principles connect to our everyday life.

I have a BA/BS Degree in Biology from Boston University, a Master of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Houston, and an Alternative Teaching Certification.

Teaching is a second career for me, as I spent many years doing cancer research as a Research Scientist at the University of Texas.

Prior to my position here at RRHS, I taught 7th grade Science at Cedar Valley Middle School and during my first year was selected as 1 of 35 Fellows nationwide by the National Science Teacher’s Association.

I am a transplant to Texas, having grown up on the East Coast but really love Austin and the surrounding area. My husband is an attorney and our daughter is starting the second year of her PhD in Microbiology at Montana State University. She is busy doing fieldwork in Yellowstone and is on the path to becoming an Astrobiologist.

As a family we love to explore and love being outdoors at both the beach and the mountains.

I am a lifelong learner and love to add to my scientific knowledge.

I am looking forward to sharing my love of science with my classes as we embark on an inquisitive adventure.
