5/18/20 - Counseling Lesson Week 7 - Virtual Career Day

Hello,

Welcome to this week's counseling lesson. We had our Career Dar scheduled for Tuesday, May 19th. Because of our current situation, we had to cancel it. However, I still want to expose our BCE students to different careers and professions they can pursue. Please explore the following presentations.

5/11/20 - Counseling Lesson Week 6 - Things IN or OUT of my Control

Hello,

Welcome to this week's counseling lesson. We all worry about things from time to time. One way we can deal with worry and anxiety is to ask ourselves: "is this thing or situation IN our OUT of my control?" Recently, we all have learned that some things are OUT of our control while some other things are IN our control. It's hard to deal with feelings when we feel like things are chaotic and OUT of our control. That's why, it is very important that we find safety in working on the things that ARE IN our control. Watch the two videos to find out how you can change the things that are in your control and how you can manage and adjust to the things OUT of your control.

5/4/20 - Counseling Lesson Week 5 - Positive Thinking and Affirmations

Hello,

Welcome to this week's counseling lesson. All of us sometimes struggle with seeing things from a more positive outlook. Watch the video so you can learn some ways of how to change your thinking to a more positive view. Please review the pages with the 100 Positive Thoughts and Affirmations to pick the top 10 that best fit you. Write your favorite 10 down and keep them in a place where you can see them. When you're struggling with negative thoughts, read these affirmations to remind yourself of how AWESOME you are...even when you don't feel very awesome. If it's a situation that is making you upset, try to find at least 1 good thing about what is happening at that moment. Gratitude for that 1 positive thing will help you turn your mind around.

4/27/20 - Counseling Lesson Week 4 - Stress Management and Compromise

Hello,

We've been home for 5 weeks already. Maybe you're starting to feel a bit stressed and frustrated about not being able to go to the places you used to go and see the friends and family you used to visit. Watch the first video with ideas of things you can do when you start to feel stressed. Also, when kids are stressed, they might start to feel a bit grumpy with their parents and their siblings (brothers and/or sisters). Watch the second quick video to think of ways you can learn to compromise to find a solution together.

4/20/20 - Counseling Lesson Week 3 - The Five Love Languages

Hello,

This week's lesson discusses how we can better show our love and appreciation in our relationships. Each of us perceive and receive love in different ways. In this lesson, we explore how to speak the other person's love language. Please watch the lesson at your own leisure. If you want to learn more or take their free quiz, visit their website at https://www.5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/

4/13/20 - Counseling Lesson Week 2 - Flip your Lid

Hello,

This lesson explains what happens to our brain when we don't feel safe. Our limbic system gets triggered and we fight, flight or freeze. During these challenging times, it's normal for certain behaviors to come to the surface as people deal with different feelings. Please be aware that children need to calm down their nervous system to feel safe again and be able to verbalize what they need. Please watch at your leisure.

4/6/20 - Counseling Lesson Week 1 - Grounding Tools and Strategies

Hello Parents,

This entire school year, I’ve worked really hard to support your children’s social and emotional well being. Please know that I'm here to continue to support you and your child as we move towards distance learning. For the first week, I included a short video with easy grounding tools and strategies that you and your child can practice when experiencing big feelings. Please watch at your leisure.
