Direct Services with students

Responsive Services & Individual Student Planning

Individual Counseling services are available on a request and situation urgency. Parents and staff will fill the individual counseling request form and student will be seen in the order of urgency and request. Please be aware that ethically school counselors can not do therapy in a school setting. That's considered outside their scope of practice. However, school counselors can do brief counseling for any social and emotional issues regarding family & school. If a student needs to be seen consistently (more than 3 or 4 times for the same issue/concern), school counselors need to refer the child for outside therapy. In the section below, you can find outside counseling resources for on going therapy.

Responsive Services

Small Group Counseling services are available on parent and teacher recommendation. I usually run "Lunch Bunch" groups once a week for each grade level. In order for small groups to be productive and effective, attendance needs to be kept to 3-5 students. I meet with each lunch bunch group for 6-8 weeks (one group per 9 weeks). Then, a new group of students will be chosen for the next 9 weeks group.

In our campus, we also have the Round Rock High School PALS program and the RRISD mentor program. Here, your child will meet with a mentor once or twice a week during his or her lunch. During the year, special topics small groups might be needed as a Grief group, Divorce group or Friendship group. These special topics groups usually last 6 weeks and are ran by the Counselor. If your child is recommended to be part of a lunch bunch, PALS/Mentor program or a special topic group, I will send home a permission slip for you to sign and fill.

School Counseling Core Curriculum

Classroom Guidance Counseling services are available for every classroom in our campus. Each classroom will receive a minimum of one lesson of month. The school year's lesson calendar is below and is based on RRISD Counseling department curriculum and state/national standards. Teachers can always request additional lessons as needed to support the students' social and emotional development. Classroom teachers also use the Second Step curriculum daily to promote and develop SEL (Social Emotional Learning) in their classrooms. I can proudly say that our campus also uses Capturing Kids' Hearts and Restorative Practices to support students' SEL.

Indirect Services for Students

Indirect Services are provided on behalf of students as a result of the school counselor's interactions with other including referrals for addition assistance, consultation and collaboration with parents, other educators and community organizations.
