If you are interested in knowing how your child did, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher. We will also happily talk about how they did during October Parent Teacher Conferences.

This week during our Amplify lessons, students studied similes and metaphors, character changes over time, and inferred details about characters. While reading our mentor text, students found figurative comparisons and then found more while reading during independent time. Students also studied feelings and actions over the course of the story to track how their character was changing. At the end of the week, students studied text evidence and used their schema to draw conclusions or make inferences.

This week during our writing block, students studied verbs! Students worked each morning on skill building, proper sentence structure, revising and editing, and spelling patterns. Specifically, students rewrote verbs in the past tense, identified the subjects and predicates of various sentences, rewrote sentences after revising and editing them, and also worked on spelling past tense verbs.
This week in math, students wrapped up their learning with rounding to any place value. Students also played various review games and completed review questions for our first Mid-Module Assessment about Place Value on Friday. This assessment covered place value, writing numbers in expanded notation, using place value to discover a mystery number, comparing and ordering numbers, and base ten questions.

In science this week, students started to study the three main states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Students discussed how we can observe everyday items and the properties that they have like magnetism, buoyancy, or temperature. As a class, we reviewed important vocabulary that goes with this unit. Students also took a virtual field trip to Yellowstone! While we were there, students noticed the main three states of matter in a very real way. We also wrote a Claim, Evidence, Reasoning statement to answer science questions.
This week in social studies, students started to study the four regions of Texas: Coastal Plains, Mountains and Basins, Central Plains, and the Great plains. As a class, we took a virtual field trip to each region and studied various aspects. We looked at each region's cities, landscape or geography, industry, and climate and weather.
