Hello parents and guardians!
Another week in the books! We hope that you are enjoying listening to you child talk about all of the wonderful things that they are learning this week. If you haven't already, make sure to set up a time and place that your child can read each night. They could read to a sibling, read in a tree fort, or even read to a pet! We know how busy things can get with sports and extra activities, but even just 20 minutes can help improve your child's standardized test scores and boost their overall reading confidence.
You can check your child's library schedule on the side.
Don't forget to send your child with all of their library books on their library date.
A Weeks will be odd weeks. (Example week 5)
B Weeks will be even weeks. (Example week 4)
iReady at Home
Here is a note about iReady! - This will show you how to look up your child's scores
Now that our iReady diagnostic assessment is fished for the beginning of the year, we are encouraging all students to work on their iReady lessons at home. Students are expected to pass two reading and two math iReady lessons each week. Students are given class time to complete these lessons, but sometimes it is not enough time. Teachers have their own incentives at school to help motivate students to complete their lessons. We are asking for your help to complete these lessons at home as well as at school. You can access iReady by logging in through your student's classlink. They know how to log in. Click the iReady link to the right to access classlink.
Amplify Unit 1 Activity Book
We have completed our ELAR Unit 1 about Personal Narratives! All students have taken their activity book from this unit home. There are some great assessments or workbook pages that we did not do that would make great extra practice at home! These pages are found in the back of the book. Happy learning!
Thank you for your partnership,

This week during our Amplify lessons, students wrapped up their reading from the Personal Narrative, Small Steps. Students completed plot line activities and talked about the structure of a narrative. We then jumped right into our Unit 3, Contemporary Fiction. Students started this unit by reading from our mentor text and studying the main character and their relationships with the other characters. At the end of the week, students started to pick out themes from this mentor text and other works of fiction.

This week in math, students got to practice addition and subtraction with the standard algorithium and strip diagrams. Students talked about how to use place value to add or subtract. As a class, we discussed one step word problems with addition and subtraction in them.

In science this week, students got to engage in a lab about how to classify matter. Students focused their learning on classifying matter based on mass. Students sorted objects based on mass while using a pan balance and triple beam balance. They also practice their notetaking skills by recording their data.
This week in social studies, students got ready for our first Assessment: Thinking Like a Geographer. Students play various review games and completed notes to help prepare for their assessment.
