Frequently Asked Questions

What is it like on the first day?

This year is a little different - your fist day is transition day on Friday 3rd September. We have an exciting and jam packed day for you. You will spend the day with the other students in your form, as well as your tutor, getting a taste of Rosebery life. We will start with an assembly, take your first class photos and have your canteen and IT inductions. We will also reflect on your Summer Reading Challenge and have some time in the Science labs with the bunsen burners!

At 3:15 your families will join us for a BBQ at school. You can introduce them to your new friends, your new teachers and show them around your new school!

How many classes are in a day?

Each day at Rosebery you have five lessons which are 1 hour long. Form time starts at 8:30am until 8:50am. Break is at 10:50am until 11:10am and lunch is from 1:10pm until 2pm.

Will we be given a map or guided tour to our classes?

Your form tutors will provide you with a map of the school on your first day and there will be lots of teachers around to help you find your way to your lessons. We also have some fun activities planned to help you find your way around the school too! However, if you'd like to start getting familiar with the layout at Rosebery, why not watch our tour of the school with Eva and Lauren (Year 8 students), found in the 'Year 7 Zone'.

When will you give us the list of things that we will need for school like stationary etc?

The school provides all resources and exercise books necessary for lessons. Here are some additional things you will need:

Are the tasks and challenges you post under English and Mathematics mandatory?

The tasks posted in the Year 7 Zone are all optional activities for you to enjoy, to keep you busy, until you join us at Rosebery. Look out for some fun science experiments you can do at home, coming soon!

Will we get to write down a list of people we would like to be in the same class as? Can I choose a friend to be in my tutor group? Can they be from a different Primary school?

Your language choices will determine which side of the year group you will be on and this will play a role in deciding which form group you are in. Miss Canessa, Mrs Ringer and Mr Branca will also consider abilities, strengths and weaknesses when creating form groups and while some students will find they are in the same form group as other students from their primary schools due to numbers, lots of you will be placed without primary buddies as this is an important opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. There are also lots of opportunities for you to mix with students outside of your form groups.

How often do you post things on the website? Do you continue to post things when we are at school?

We are updating the website every week, sometimes multiple times a week, with lots of videos from your teachers and challenges for you to get involved in. Not only do we post things on the website but will use our Year 7 Instagram (roseberyyear7) account to post all of the amazing things that you will get up to!

Have any other questions? Why not email them to us and we'll post the answers here!
