Pathways Explained

During the autumn term our Year 9 students will have sat the exams that will help us to place them onto their recommended pathway. The exam data is only one element that we consider when placing students in their pathways; we also review their individual prior knowledge and progress data. We will this year recognise the disruption to learning that has occurred due to COVID and ensure that no child is disadvantaged by the process. This is an important milestone in your son and daughter’s education, and we will do everything to support them to make the right choices.

There are four pathways:

  • Pathway 1: Triple Scientists and the EBacc – Nationally ‘top’ 25%

  • Pathway 2: Students who are more capable of a ‘Traditional’ EBacc route through education – enabling future choices

  • Pathway 3: Students have the opportunity to achieve the EBacc but with recognition of different learning styles

  • Pathway 4: For a small number of students - an increased opportunity to achieve good GCSE grades in Maths and English.

The EBacc isn’t in itself a qualification, but a recognition that the students have achieved qualifications in English, Maths, Science, History/Geography and a Foreign Language.
