Course Summary

This is a specialized strand of the existing art course which allows students to explore their own ideas in 3D materials. Students need to have an active and creative imagination, a confidence in expressing their ideas and a willingness to explore unusual units of study and create unique responses.

Students complete two units in Year 10 and the start of Year 11. Work is exhibited in the gallery. The two units are submitted as coursework along with the sketchbook preparation work and account for 60% of the course. Every piece of work that is completed in Years 10 and 11 is assessed as coursework.

3D Art GCSE will allow students to specialize in their art work. The course will mostly be based around clay and students will learn the techniques and skills to produce fantastic sculptures. Students must be willing to experiment with materials and processes and be ready to get their hands dirty in construction. Students will have to keep sketchbooks, but this is a course designed for students who would rather make than draw. Students will also be taught to model in card, cardboard, chicken wire, papier maché, wood, recycled objects and even wood, breeze block and plaster carving. Much of the course relies upon the motivation and organisation of students to do additional study in their own time. The art rooms are regularly open for students and are always busy after school
