Course Summary

BTEC Award in Art and Design is a Level 2 qualifications which is broadly equivalent to a GCSE. It is designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications for those wishing to develop their art skills. They give learners the knowledge and understanding needed to prepare for employment in the art sector.

Our course has been designed to give a specific vocational focus on Architecture. The BTEC covers both 2D and 3D within the three mandatory units and the two optional units. Students have to pass every one of these units. The course will be taught for 3 hours per week.

Those who enjoy hands on practical work should be most successful at BTEC.

Independent learning is essential in BTEC as project briefs will be set and students will have to be responsible for the development of their own ideas.

One of the units of study focusses on the use of different materials and techniques (pencil, coloured pencil, soft pastel, oil pastel, polyboard printing, watercolour painting) to allow students to build up their presentation skills.

The other units all focus on architecture. We study history and styles, visit the City of London on a walking tour, build skills in showing ideas in 2D and 3D, learn how to use drawing equipment and CAD systems and design our own ‘Dream House’
