Our Art Curriculum Overview
Our 7 year learning journey in Art is detailed here, please click on our Learning Journey Document to the right to view.
The curriculum is structured as a "Learning Journey" spanning Years 10 through 13, progressing from technical foundations to independent investigations:
Year 10 (Camera Skills & Natural Forms): Focuses on foundational camera skills, including DSLR modes and the exposure triangle (ISO, aperture, shutter speed). Students study composition principles (e.g., Rule of Thirds) and formal elements while exploring the theme of "Natural Forms" through photographers like Karl Blossfeldt and Edward Weston.
Year 11 (Identity): Explores the theme of "Identity," covering topics like culture, heritage, and mental health. Students conduct "Personal Investigation 1" and research artists like Cindy Sherman.
Year 12 (Man Made): Shifts focus to the "Man Made" theme, covering concepts like architecture and design. It involves studying photographers such as Julius Shulman and working on completing Personal Investigation 1.
Year 13 (Advanced Study): Culminates in "Personal Investigation 2" and a final Externally Set Assignment, focusing on independent experimentation and refinement of ideas for A-level options.
Throughout all years, the plan emphasizes core skills such as recording ideas, photographer research, refinement, and the presentation of final outcomes
