Welcome to our Curriculum

At Roding Valley High School, we pride ourselves on having a 'Seven Year Journey' for our students, which means that each one of our fantastic subjects is sequenced and planned to ensure that ALL students can progress to the next milestone in their journey.

At RVHS, we believe that every teacher is their own subject specialist and is passionate about their subject. We believe that each subject has it's own set of core skills (many overlap) that underpin success in their area.

All subjects taught are rich in their own content- and deciding what content to teach and deliver can sometimes be tricky- key questions must be asked such as 'What subject content is needed to allow students to unlock understanding?' 'What skills are needed before progressing onto others?'

At RVHS, we have worked hard on answering these questions, as department teams. Only subject specialists can truly answer these well.

The product of these questions has been our excellent curriculum skills & content maps. These skills and content maps are the result of much debate and scrutiny from our department teams. This process began with subjects asking questions of their own curriculum offer. Teams then decided what would make a good 'Scientist', 'Historian', 'Geographer', 'Mathematician', etc at the highest level and then decided what needed to be taught & learnt to get to that point.

Each curriculum map lays out what content (topic), skill and assessment will be focused on per half term. The map begins with Year 7 and ends with Year 13- this allows for our curriculum to be coherently sequenced together; allowing our students to progress through the subject logically.

We are also excited to develop our Key Stage Five curriculum for 2024-25. Please check out our Sixth form page for updates on this.
