The James Henry Thomas Scholarship is a selective scholarship for high school seniors and current college students. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $500 or more per academic year and will be sent directly to the requested institution. All applications are due no later than June 1st to be considered for the upcoming fall semester. Applicants must re-apply each year.
Scholarship Eligibility:
To be eligible for the James Henry Thomas Scholarship, the student must meet the following criteria:
Be a North Carolina permanent resident (college/university does not have to be in NC)
Be a high school senior or current college student
Be 17-23 years of age
A one-time scholarship in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded to one (1) high school female scholar who plans to major in a Health Care or a STEM field of study. The scholarship offers financial assistance, not to exceed the maximum of the award to cover the cost of tuition and related expenses, to a graduating high school female senior meeting the eligibility requirements, which includes enrollment as a full-time student at an accredited college or university in Fall 2023 majoring in a health Care or a STEM field of study. The deadline to submit your application for consideration is by 11:59 PM, EST on Sunday, June 4, 2023!
Criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
• Applicants must be a graduating high school female senior.
• Applicants must be a resident of District of Columbia, North Carolina, Commonwealth of
Virginia, West Virginia, or the United Arab Emirates
• Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.5 unweighted.
• Applicants must plan to major in a STEM field of study.
• College/university acceptance letter(s) stating intended major
• Community service and involvement are a plus.
The J.J. Johnson Scholarship Fund was established in December 1996 to encourage, support, and inspire young people to achieve their post high school educational goals. Applications are available to any graduating senior attending the Public Schools of Robeson County and any graduating senior of First Baptist Church, North Main St., Fairmont, NC. The applicant must be active in his/her church and community; have good attendance and conduct good record; and must have obtained a C+ average or better.
In addition to the form, the applicant must submit the following :
his/her high school transcript (in sealed envelope or email from school personnel)
an essay (at least one (1) single spaced page, not exceeding two (2) which should include a brief biography, goals, interests, future plans, awards, offices held and recognitions in school, community, and church. You may also include moral values and religous beliefs.
