Dear Families,
It has been another busy fortnight at school, filled with exciting learning and inspiring trips. I can't believe we are approaching the end of the half term already.
We look forward to welcoming you into school next week for our parents' evenings. We always enjoy these opportunities to share and celebrate your childโs successes and discuss their next steps together.
Today you will receive a mid-term report providing an update on how your child is doing in the core subjects and across our school values. We hope this information is helpful and allows you to come to your appointment with any questions ready, ensuring you can make the most of your time with the teachers.

Following the successful launch of The Roselands Way, our students have been doing a fantastic job transitioning from a warm Roselands Welcome in the mornings to mastering our Legendary Lines in the corridors. It has been a joy to see them moving through the school with such purpose and pride!
This week, we are shifting our focus to Positive Playtimes. We want our break and lunch times to be as successful as our lesson times, ensuring every child feels included and energised. We are using our three school rules to guide our playtime expectations:
Be Ready: Weโre encouraging children to use the toilets and get their coats on before heading out, and to keep an ear out for the whistle so theyโre ready to transition back to class.
Be Respectful: This is all about sharing equipment fairly, using kind words, and making sure no one is left out of a game.
Be Safe: To keep everyone happy and healthy, we are focusing on staying in designated play areas where adults can see us and stopping immediately when the whistle blows.
Itโs been a brilliant term of growth so far, and we canโt wait to see our playground buzzing with these positive habits!
We have recently noticed an increase in children bringing "treat" snacks, such as crisps and chocolate biscuits, for their morning break. While we know these are favourites at home, we kindly ask for your support in keeping our mid-morning snack time focused on healthy energy.
Why Healthy Snacks Matter
Morning break is a vital "recharge" period. High-sugar or high-salt snacks often lead to a quick energy spike followed by a "slump," making it harder for children to focus during their lessons before lunch.
What to Pack
To help our children stay alert and ready to learn, please ensure that morning snacks consist of fruit or vegetables only.
Great options include:
๐ Fresh Fruit: Apples, bananas, grapes, or easy-peel oranges.
๐ฅฆ Crunchy Veg: Carrot sticks, cucumber slices, or sugar snap peas.
๐ Dried Fruit: Small boxes of raisins or dried apricots.
A Quick Reminder: We are a nut-aware school. Please ensure that all snacks are free from nuts to keep all our students safe.
Last week, our Year 3 children went to Exeter University to watch the incredible Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and become a part of their amazing 'Four Elements' concerts. The children learned lyrics, Makaton and body percussion to join the orchestra in performing several songs from the concert. The children were able to learn about the instrument families and, hopefully, spark musical ambitions in the future!
Our young writers have dived headfirst into an exciting new Poetry unit! To kick things off, we spent time "immersing" ourselves in the world of feelings - not just through words, but by exploring how we portray different emotions using our faces and bodies.
As part of their art lessons this half term, year 5 and 6 have explored African masks. This week, they made their own masks out of clay and are waiting patiently for them to dry before bringing them to life with paint next week.
Over the last two weeks, both Pearl and Garnet Class visited Paignton Academy to participate in a local Handball Festival. They enjoyed fantastic afternoons of sport and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of how our children all conducted themselves, serving as excellent ambassadors for our school community. Well done to everyone involved for their effort and sportsmanship!
On Tuesday 27th January, a group of Year 4, 5, and 6 performing arts children from Roselands travelled to Birmingham for an unforgettable experience: the Young Voices Concert.
This year was particularly special as it marked the 30th anniversary of the event, which is officially the largest children's choir in the world! Our students joined a massive chorus of 5,934 primary school children at the BP Pulse Arena, bringing together young voices from across the country in a powerful display of music and performance.
Highlights of the Show
The arena was filled with energy as the children performed an eclectic setlist, including:
"All Over the World"
A spirited Sea Shanty Medley
The dramatic "Wicked" Medley
The moving "Something Inside So Strong"
The children didn't just sing; they also showed off their groovy dance moves alongside the Urban Strides street dance group. They were further inspired by performing with guest artists Ruti, Connie Talbot, and Aneesa Folds.
This week we opened our doors to parents and carers for National Storytelling Week, and it was wonderful to see so many of you come along to enjoy reading with your children. At Roselands, we want every child to be a reader, and hosting these sessions is just a small part of how we encourage a genuine love of reading.
For those of you who were not able to come along, please do not worry. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories with the adults in school, ensuring that everyone was involved in the celebration. By engaging with books together, we are all helping to reinforce the importance of literacy and build a strong reading culture across our school community.
Are you looking for a friendly space for your little ones to explore, or perhaps a chance to connect with other local parents and carers?ย
We are thrilled to announce that Roselands Primary School is opening its doors to the entire community for our brand-new Community Play & Stay sessions for parents with children who are under 5 years old.
Whether you currently have a child at Roselands, your child is destined for our school in the future or you just live nearby, we would love to meet you!ย Please feel free to pass on the information to anybody else in the community who you think would be interested.ย
Hannah (our SENDCO) and Helen (our Family Support Worker) will be running these sessions each month, we are hoping for a good turn out!
A huge congratulations to Alexander who has won several swimming trophies recently!ย These include:
๐ Trophy for the 'youngest boy in the underโ8 category' (complete all six disciplines)
๐ Trophy for 'Backstroke' โ 25mย
๐ Trophy for 'Butterfly' โ 25m
๐ Trophy for 'Murch and Baker Heating Cup Challenge'
We are incredibly proud of you Alexander, what an amazing achievement! โญ
Each fortnight, we shine a light on class attendance to celebrate and encourage everyone to aim high! Check out how each class is doing and letโs keep up the effort. Every day counts - letโs aim for everybody to be an attendance hero!ย ย
Please ensure that all absences are reported directly to the office, rather than directly to teachers via seesaw.
Every Day Counts: The Attendance Trophy! ๐ย
As we look ahead to next half term, we are excited to be raising the profile of positive attendance across the school. We know that being in school every day gives our children the very best chance to thrive, and we want to celebrate that commitment as a whole community.
House Team Spirit
We will be introducing a new element to our weekly Celebration Assemblies: House Attendance Percentages. Children will have the chance to earn valuable house points for their teams just by being here and ready to learn. At the end of each half term, the house with the best attendance for the half term will be awarded the brand-new Attendance Trophy!
Supporting Our Families
While we are excited to celebrate these successes, we remain committed to supporting our families:
We Understand: There are, of course, occasions when children are genuinely too unwell to attend school.
The Impact: We also recognise that the impact of missing school is significant, both academically and socially.
Building Habits: Our goal is to work alongside you to help our children get into those vital, positive habits of being in school as much as they are able to.
Please note that the Performing Arts Show dates in March have been added.
