Dear Families,
It has been a lovely first week back at Roselands. The children have enjoyed settling back in, getting to know their new team tables and starting their new Personal Development unit which is all about Dreams and Goals.ย A highlight of my week was visiting some Year 5 and 6 lessons and hearing about their dream jobs and how they plan to make their dreams a reality!ย ย
The letter last week should have given you lots of information about this term at school, but do please ask if you have any questions!ย
Mrs Pippa Bastock
We pride ourselves on being a school that cares for its community, and that includes our neighbours on the surrounding roads. Recently, some residents on Porlock Way have been unable to access their own driveways due to school run parking.
If you are parking near the school, please double-check that you are not obstructing any entrances. If Porlock Way is busy, please consider parking slightly further away to keep the flow of traffic safe for everyone.
This week the KS1 children really enjoyed their hook English lesson that started their new instruction writing unit of learning. They had to work together to read and follow the instructions carefully to create a bowl of magic porridge. They worked brilliantly in their teams to mix the special ingredients which included unicorn hair, diamonds, crystals and a sprinkle of Wizard dust too!
Thank you to all the parents that completed our Around The Clock Club parent survey in the Autumn Term. We really value your opinions and as a result of the survey we have invested in new resources for the children,ย created a designated quiet reading and set up an Upper Key Stage two zone for our older children who attend the club. In response to parent feedback, there will now be an overview of the Around The Clock Club provision updated on our school website each term.
We have also made the following investments:
Our food area -ย All new plates, bowls, cups and cutlery. New self-serve cereal dispensers to support with children's independence and a designated zone for meal times.ย
Our Arts and crafts - Jewellery making kits (loom band and clay beads), colouring pencils and felt tip pens and a variety of craft based resources based on the children's interests.ย
Our home corner - New wooden kitchen, wooden and fabric resources for role play such as tea set, food, and utensils.
Our small world and construction area - Wooden train sets, new colourful play mats and magnetic tiles.
Our upper KS2 zone - Jewellery making kits, card games such as Dobble and Uno, paper aeroplane making sets.
Our outdoor area has had new scooter boards which can be seen in action in our new school promotional video!ย
If you would like your child to attend our Around The Clock Club, please see our school website for more details.ย
We would like to extend a special thank you to our hardworking House Captains, who have gone above and beyond over the last term. They have undertaken multiple tours for prospective parents and children, acting as the "face" of our school for families looking to join our community.
Our House Captains have showcased our school wonderfully, speaking with confidence, kindness, and genuine enthusiasm about their learning and experiences. They have been fantastic ambassadors, and the feedback from visitors has been glowing. You have made us all very proud - well done!
You may be aware of the Mental Health in Schools Team (MHST) and the work that they do in schools across Devon, supporting children with mental health issues such as anxiety. The team also work with parents to support their parenting skills around promoting good mental health. The MHST practitioners who support our pupils at Roselands have become a valuable part of the wider school team and as such they would like to offer parents/carers the opportunity to meet them.
If you would like to know more about the team, the work that they do and the support they can offer then we would like to invite you to the sessions they are offering in school this term:
Monday 19th January, 8:50 am โ Introduction to MHST (30 mins)
Monday 2nd February, 8:50 am โ Understanding Your Childโs Mental Health (1 hr)
Monday 23rd February, 8:50 am โ Understanding & Managing Anxiety (1 hr)
If you are interested in attending any of the sessions then please just complete this google form indicating which sessions and who will be attending.
Each fortnight, we shine a light on class attendance to celebrate and encourage everyone to aim high! Check out how each class is doing and letโs keep up the effort. Every day counts - letโs aim for everybody to be an attendance hero!
A big well done to Pearl and Ruby class this week who have reached 97%!
Please note that the House Days have been updated!
