Dear Families,
We hope you’ve all had a fantastic week - the sun has certainly been a welcome guest at Roselands! ☀️
It has been another busy fortnight with plenty to celebrate. Please feel free to use the links at the top of this newsletter to jump straight to the sections you need.
Broadsands House Day: This Friday!
Keep an eye on your inbox! You should have received an email today detailing our upcoming Broadsands House Day. One of the highlights of our school year is seeing our House Captains lead with such passion; this year, Seth and Arya have chosen to support The Thrive Project. They have worked incredibly hard to plan a fantastic day. We can’t wait to see the whole school come together for this brilliant cause. Thank you in advance for your generosity in helping Seth and Arya make their vision a reality!
Keeping Our Community Safe
While we love seeing our school spirit thrive, we must also ensure our community remains a safe place for everyone. We have recently received concerning reports regarding driving behaviour, parking, and unrestrained children during drop-off and pick-up.
For the safety of all of our children, please ensure:
Seatbelts: Children must remain securely buckled until the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
Speed: Please keep speeds low and stay vigilant for families walking nearby.
Parking: We ask that you park respectfully and legally. We have received complaints from neighbours regarding blocked driveways; please remain mindful of local residents to ensure we maintain our positive relationships.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Roselands safe and welcoming.
As we look ahead to next week, we are incredibly excited to open our doors for our Performing Arts show, which is taking place on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Parents and carers of children who attend this club have been sent details on how to book tickets. Today, our EYFS and KS1 children were lucky enough to get a sneak preview as they watched the dress rehearsal! KS2 children will have this opportunity on Monday morning next week. 🎭
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs Pippa Bastock
A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our recent parent survey. Your voice is vital in helping us celebrate what’s working and identify where we can grow. We are incredibly proud of the results, particularly the high levels of safety and happiness reported.
The Highlights
99% of parents and carers feel their child is safe at our school.
98% of you would recommend our school to another parent/carer.
95% of parents and carers agree their child is happy here.
95% feel their child receives the right support to learn well.
94% feel the school ensures pupils are well-behaved.
Turning Feedback into Action
While the majority of feedback was overwhelmingly positive, we also reviewed individual comments and suggestions. Even where points are raised by only one or two parents, we are committed to continuous improvement.
Here is how we are responding to those specific suggestions:
Clubs & Activities - The Senior Leadership Team will review our full club offer for the next academic year to ensure variety and engagement.
School Meals - We have passed your comments to Caterlink. We are hoping to arrange a parent information and food tasting session soon so you can see (and taste!) the changes.
School Costs - We understand that requests for money can add up. We will provide an overview of costs at the start of the year to help families plan and ensure requests are well-spaced.
Site Access - We have issued a reminder to all staff to ensure gates are opened and children are dismissed promptly at the designated times.
Medical Updates - We have contacted the provider directly to find a solution for more details to be included in the letters.
Sports Day - We will review our Sports Day arrangements to ensure that the events remain fun, inclusive, and fair for every child.
The register hasn't even been taken and the children in Reception are always straight to work! From the moment they hang their coats up, it's straight to their early morning work - what a flying start to the day! Well done Aquamarine and Amethyst Class!
We are beginning to plan ahead for our Fireworks Night in November, a much‑loved event that brings our whole community together for an evening of excitement, colour and celebration. This event not only creates wonderful memories but also raises vital funds that directly benefit our children and enrich school life. Our Parent and Staff Association (PSA) work tirelessly to make the night a success, and we are now seeking sponsors to help us continue delivering an event of this scale. If you or your business would be interested in supporting Fireworks Night 2026, we would be delighted to hear from you. Unfortunately, if sponsors are not forthcoming, the event may not be able to go ahead.
The EYFS Forest School sessions began in earnest over the last fortnight. The first week proved the old adage that there is no such thing as "bad weather" when there is fun to be had! That said, we certainly appreciated the sun making an appearance for this week’s session.
Over the two weeks, the children showed wonderful enthusiasm as they explored the grounds, using specialised equipment to study mini-beasts and observing the fresh growth within our Willow Dome. Creativity was also on full display, with children designing "pinecone bees," butterflies, and seed mosaics. Of course, no Forest School session is complete without the fire pit; the children did a fantastic job toasting their handmade "bread worms" and s'mores—a warm and well-earned treat to conclude their super afternoons of outdoor learning.
Over the last two weeks, some of our teams have headed off to different sports fixtures. Our Year 5 and 6 girls' teams have attended football matches and a Netball Bee! What shone through most was the incredible sportsmanship they displayed. They worked brilliantly as a team and made us incredibly proud of how they represented the school.
Last week, a group of our Year 5 pupils enjoyed an enriching transition experience at Churston Grammar School.
Our children dived into a varied timetable, including:
French: Expanding their linguistic skills through interactive tasks.
Biology: Exploring scientific concepts in a laboratory setting.
English: Engaging with new texts and creative discussions.
The staff and students leading the sessions at Churston were impressed by our children's enthusiasm and the insightful questions they asked. We are immensely proud of how they conducted themselves; they were fantastic ambassadors for our school. Well done to all involved!
Over the last two weeks, both Tanzanite and Opal have taken part in a Sports Festival at Paignton Academy. The children had an action‑packed afternoon and the atmosphere was buzzing throughout. The children threw themselves into a whole host of exciting activities, from testing their aim in archery to gliding stones in curling, plotting tactics in a giant game of battleships and racing around the sports hall on an energetic scavenger hunt. The children represented the school with enthusiasm, teamwork and brilliant sportsmanship.
This week, our Year 1 and Year 2 History lesson was visited by some very special guests who transported us back to 1859. The Town Mayor, a local baker, and an eyewitness spectator joined us to share their firsthand accounts of the infamous Paignton Pudding Riots. The children prepared insightful questions to dig deeper into the event, uncovering the fascinating (and chaotic!) details of our local history. It was a wonderful opportunity for the class to practice their inquiry skills and see the past come to life.
This week, some of our children traded their desks for the great outdoors, spending an inspiring day at the Mare and Foal Sanctuary. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to step into the fresh air and learn firsthand about the world of equine rescue and rehabilitation.
During their visit, the children didn’t just observe; they truly immersed themselves in the sanctuary's mission. Highlights of the day included:
Behind-the-Scenes Access: Learning about the vital charitable work and the round-the-clock care required to help rescued horses and ponies thrive.
Building Connections: Developing a deep sense of calm and companionship, both with their peers and the gentle residents of the sanctuary.
Life Skills in the Paddock: Practicing social and emotional skills, building confidence, and fostering empathy alongside their new four-legged friends.
A massive thank you to the incredible team at the Mare and Foal Sanctuary for hosting us and providing such a meaningful experience for our children.
Last Friday, a group of Roselands pupils took part in the annual Trust Swimming Gala, held at Oldway Primary School. Key Stage 2 children from across the Trust competed in a range of swimming races, alongside some fun and energetic relay events.
We are incredibly proud of how well our pupils represented both themselves and Roselands. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the event, earning additional points for their positive attitudes.
Overall, Roselands finished in a fantastic third place, with Shiphay coming second and Oldway taking first place. Well done to everyone involved!
Outstanding performance of the day was awarded to Rudy Quest Y4 and Outstanding effort was awarded to Gracie Taylor Y5.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this week! Our school hall was buzzing with energy, creativity, and the wonderful smell of fresh coffee.
It was fantastic to see our community come together to celebrate the season. From the adorable sock bunnies and chick puppets to some very artistic watercolour paintings, the talent on display was incredible. The sheep cake decorating was a definite highlight (and very delicious!), while our grass heads are now tucked away on windowsills waiting to grow!
Thank you to all the volunteers and parents who made the morning so special. We can’t wait to do it again!
A huge congratulations to Charlotte for achieving her Chief Scout Silver Award!
This is the highest honour a Scout can earn during their time in Cubs, representing over two years of hard work, badge-earning, and personal challenges. We are incredibly proud of her dedication and perseverance. Well done, Charlotte!
We are incredibly proud to spotlight Darcy, who has spent the last three years growing his hair for a wonderful cause!
As you’ll see in the poster, Darcy is preparing to cut and donate his hair to help those in need. This level of commitment is inspiring to see. If you are able to contribute, please consider supporting Darcy’s fundraiser to help him reach his goal. Every donation makes a difference!
Each fortnight, we shine a light on class attendance to celebrate and encourage everyone to aim high! Check out how each class is doing and let’s keep up the effort. Every day counts - let’s aim for everybody to be an attendance hero!
Please ensure that all absences are reported directly to the office, rather than directly to teachers via Seesaw.
The attendance over the last week has shown a huge improvement! A huge well done to everybody - keep it up! ⭐
Please note that the Year 1 Forest School has been put back by 1 week and will now begin on the 27th April.
