Your counselor will meet with you individually during the Fall semester. During these meetings, you and your counselor will go over your goals, progress towards graduation and college entrance requirements, and other pertinent grade-level information. In the Spring Semester, counselors will provide classroom presentations to students in grades 9-11 to go over course selection information for the next school year.
Below is a comparison of RUSD high school graduation requirements and the California college entrance requirements, known as "A through G". MLKHS Counselors encourage all students to aim to complete A-G requirements. Studies have shown that students who complete these requirements show increased success in post-secondary endeavors, whether moving onto military, community college, 4-year universities, or career.
Students must complete 220 credits in specific subject areas in order to meet graduation requirements. A grade of D or better will earn graduation credit. However, certain subjects, such as math and foreign languages, require that students pass the second semester with a C or higher in order to advance to the next level.
Please note: New area Ethnic Studies required beginning with Class of 2028.
The A-G / College Entrance Requirements are a sequence of high school courses that students must complete (with a grade of C or better) to meet the minimum eligibility requirements for application to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU). Minimum GPA for CSU's is 2.5, minimum GPA for UC's is 3.0.

Out-of-state and private colleges may have different requirements. Students should research admission requirements if they are considering attending any out-of-state or private universities.
