The IB Diploma course at Ritsumeikan Uji provides all the academic rigour, moral development and future-oriented learning of the IBDP in an approach that recognises the unique needs of Japanese students. Indeed, our course guarantees students the chance to not only finish high school with an English language IB Diploma, but also the Ritsumeikan high school graduation certificate.

Course structure

The structure of our IB Course is a unique one that can be broken down into 4 steps:

1. Pre-IB: From April to December, new students will complete the Pre-IB phase of the course. This period focuses on preparing the students for (or for IPC graduates, putting the final touches on) the academic rigours of the official IB Diploma Programme.

2. IBDP #1: From January of Grade 10 to March of Grade 11, our students complete the first 'year' of their official IB studies.

3. IBDP #2: Students continue their IB journey, which concludes in November with the final exams.

4. Post-IB: Following their conclusion of their IB diploma studies, IB students complete a handful of additional subjects to earn their Japanese high school certificates, while at the same time applying to universities across Japan and around the world.

A basic timeline for a student's progress through our IB course is presented below.

4. ポストIB：IBディプロマ取得後、いくつかの追加科目を履修し、日本の高校卒業資格を取得すると同時に、日本や世界の大学に出願します。

Pre-IB

From April to December of Grade 10, our IB course students engage in the pre-IB phase of the course. During this period, students will study subjects set by the Japanese Ministry of Education, which will contribute to their eligibility for the high school graduate certificate.

Our approach to these subjects, however, focuses on building the fundamental skills and attitudes required for later success in the official IB Diploma Programme. We also incorporate two additional subjects that have been highly effective in preparing students for the IB core, which we call Big Picture (our version of the IB's Theory of Knowledge) and Pre-CAS (which serves to introduce students to the IB's extracurricular component: Creativity-Activity-Service).

IBコースの生徒は、10年生の4月から12月まで、プレIBの段階に入ります。この期間には、日本の文部科学省が定めた、高校卒業資格を得るための科目を学習します。

While many outsiders tend to see the IB solely as an academic course, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, our teaching staff work tirelessly to cultivate strong social bonds between students in each cohort, and between the three different grade cohorts. After 12 years' guiding young people towards their IB diplomas, we've found that the best way to encourage positive attitudes and healthy work ethics is to establish a safe and relaxed environment where our students can be themselves and grow into well-rounded young adults with lots of peer and teacher support. Our calendar is full of course and full school events and experiences, including a Grade 10 orientation camp, summer barbecue at Biwa Lake, annual Talent Show, and many more!

多くの外部の人は、IBを単にアカデミックなコースとして見ていますが、実際にはそうではありません。実際、当校の教師陣は、各コホートの生徒間、そして3つの異なる学年のコホート間で強い社会的絆を育むために、たゆまぬ努力を続けています。12年間、IBディプロマ取得に向けて若者を指導してきた結果、前向きな姿勢や健全な労働倫理を促すには、安全でリラックスした環境を作り、生徒が自分らしく、仲間や先生のサポートを受けながら充実した若者に成長できるようにするのが一番だとわかりました。当校のカレンダーには、10年生のオリエンテーションキャンプ、びわ湖でのサマーバーベキュー、毎年恒例のタレントショーなど、コースとフルスクールのイベントや体験が盛りだくさんです。

IBDP

After the winter break of their Grade 10 year, IB course students begin their official IB diploma journey, which will lead them into November of Grade 12.

Our IB course offers multiple subjects at both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) from every IBDP subject group, as you can see below.

10年生の冬休みが終わると、IBコースの生徒は12年生の11月から正式なIBディプロマ取得の旅に出ます。

当校のIBコースでは、以下のように、IBDPのすべての科目グループから、標準レベル（SL）と高等レベル（HL）の両方で複数の科目を提供しています。

As with our IP Course, a key feature of our approach to IB education is providing students with the intellectual and emotional tools to manage their own learning and become self-sufficient, resourceful, and resilient. These are not easy things to learn, and each individual encounters a number of challenges on their IB journey, but our teachers are with them every step of the way, and the outcome each year is an astounding group of young men and women with clear goals, self confidence, and the skills they need to manage the next steps into the future. Post-IB - ポストIB

After finishing their official IB exams in November of Grade 12, our students' final step is to complete the Post-IB phase of the course. During Post-IB ,students complete an additional four non-IB subjects to satisfy the requirements for the Japanese high school graduation certificate. All these courses (except PE) are taught by IB staff.

Post-IB is also a great time for our Grade 12 students to send out university and scholarship applications and put the final touches on their plan for the next year. Students who have been accepted into universities in Australia and New Zealand, whose school year begins in February, are also able to finish their Post-IB studies early without penalty so they can start at their new schools on time.

12年生の11月に行われる国際バカロレアの公式試験を終えた生徒は、最後のステップとしてPost-IBコースを修了します。ポストIBでは、日本の高校卒業証明書の要件を満たすために、IB科目以外の4科目を追加で履修します。これらの科目（PEを除く）はすべて、IBスタッフが担当します。

Post-IBは、12年生の生徒にとって、大学や奨学金の申し込みをしたり、次年度の計画を最終的に仕上げたりするのに最適な時期でもあります。2月に学年が始まるオーストラリアとニュージーランドの大学に合格した生徒は、違約金なしでPost-IBの勉強を早めに終わらせ、新しい学校に時間通りに入学することができます。

Every student has a different experience in the Rits IB Course, but although the IBDP is a road full of challenges the journey is both rewarding and life-changing.
