Emotional wellness involves the ability to recognize, express, and effectively manage a wide range of emotions. If feelings become overwhelming or start to hinder your daily functioning, it's important to seek assistance.
When feeling stressed, down, or anxious, practicing cognitive-behavioral skills and mindfulness techniques can help mitigate negative emotions. Emotional wellness encompasses various aspects, including but not limited to:
Impulse control
Drive/determination (motivation)
Self-esteem/self-acceptance/self-compassion
Understanding and acknowledging your own feelings
Communicating your feelings with others
Ability to trust in ourselves and others
Being optimistic about outcomes
Ability to recognize emotions in others
Humour and play
There is a misconception that in order to create good artwork and become a great artist, one must endure emotional hardship and push themselves through the limits. However, nurturing your Emotional Wellness is a sustainable way to continue your work, tap into strong emotions (positive and negative), and achieve your artist and academic goals.
