Today, in the 1st-3rd grade classroom, the students made “rules of the jungle,” such as having inside voices, treating others the way you want to be treated, being kind to one another, etc. They decorated their notebooks to show their spectacular, artistic abilities, and after, they participated in a drawing activity. They drew hearts, and wrote about their favorite animals on the inside and their least favorite animals on the outside.

Today in the 1st-3rd grade group, the students were taught how to make opinion paragraphs. In this, they learned how to state their opinions through songs. When they were done, they made binoculars so they could closely analyze the topic. Then, they picked out exotic animals that aren’t typical house pets.

Today, in the 1st-3rd grade classroom, they learned the "voice" in writing and how to put this voice into their writing. A"voice" occurs when writers use interesting words to make it sound like they are talking. Later, the students wrote their final draft on their opinion paragraph, titled "What Animal Makes the Best Pet".

Today, in the 1st-3rd grade classroom, they went and viewed their classmate's work they did in their journal. With their writing piece, they learned how to add detail to their sentences, known as stretching sentences. Later, they read a book called "The Perfect Pet."

Today, in the 1^st-3^rd grade classroom, they read “The 3 Little Pigs.” The book taught them about focusing and not getting off-hand. Later, they made storyboards on their narrative about an animal they think makes the best pet. This narrative was a final rough draft of their story.

Today, in the 1st-3rd grade classroom, they learned about onomatopeia. Onomatopeia is a word that is associated with the sound it represents. Later, they re-wrote their version of "The 3 Little Pigs" as a part of their storyboard. The students each had a graphic organizer to start their storyboard.

Today, in the 1st-3rd grade classroom, they did a pair share story, where one person wrote their own story, and then they shared their story with other kids. Next, they drew an animal for their narrative. Since the students have been working on their narrative for the last week, the teachers let the students sing a song called “a brain break.”

Today, in the 1st-3rd grade classroom, they read their stories to other students. They used their storyboards to tell their stories. Later, they did a self-portrait for their story. Using 3 different materials, they constructed and modeled their story animals.

Today, in the 1st-3rd grade classroom, they finished their S.T.E.A.M project, which was building a model of their animal in the story they wrote. If they finished their activity, they got to add an animal sound to the animal they wrote about. Next, parents showed up to the open-house and kids showed them their projects.
